'Frustrated' Amazon Worker Smashed Equipment, Police Say

Upper Macungie Police say Jeffrey Grubb of Allentown allegedly smashed between 15 and 20 hand-held scanners, citing 'job frustration.'

A "frustrated" Amazon.com worker admitted to smashing between 15 and 20 hand-held scanning devices, costing the company at least about $6,700 in repairs, police said.

Police said Jeffrey Grubb, of Allentown, who was already a theft suspect at the Amazon.com fulfillment center at 705 Boulder Drive in Breinigsville, admitted to breaking the scanners during a July 29 interview with management.

Grubb was arrested Saturday by Upper Macungie Police and charged with a felony count of criminal mischief for damaging property.

According to the arrest affidavit:

  • Grubb admitted to smashing between 15 and 20 hand-held Motorola scanners since his date of hire. Grubb said he would typically smash the screens, shattering them. Grubb said he did this because of "frustration with the job and other associates."
  • Amazon officials said each of the damaged units cost $1,284 and repair costs ranged between $447 and $835.

Grubb was arraigned by on-duty District Judge Patricia Engler of Allentown and was released after posting $10,000 bail.
