Seniors Win 19th Annual Garter Bowl
The Garter Bowl is an annual event at Parkland High School that takes place during Homecoming week. There are 4 teams divided up by grade level. Each team is comprised of female students from the school. In addition, there are male cheerleaders from each grade.
Garter Bowl is set up as a single elimination tournament, with the freshmen playing the juniors and sophomores playing the seniors. The winning team of each game plays in the championship game.
First, the freshman team played the junior team. The juniors started out with a touchdown and finished the drive with a two point conversion. The freshmen then quickly answered with a touchdown of their own. The juniors were relentless on both sides of the football, and defeated the freshmen by a score of 38-8.

Next, the seniors and the sophomores squared off. The sophomores opened the game with a punt. On the ensuing possession, the seniors had a touchdown negated by an offensive penalty. The juniors recovered, and scored a touchdown at the end of the half. It was a low scoring first half, with the 12th graders leading 6-0.
The second half started out with a bang, as on the first play from scrimmage, the seniors scored a touchdown and converted the two points. The seniors piled it on, and defeated the tenth graders by a final score of 28-0.

In the championship game, the juniors took on the seniors, and it started with the juniors scoring a rushing touchdown after a long pass play. They were stopped on the conversion. The seniors quickly answered with a touchdown of their own, and took the lead by a score of 8-6. With only a few minutes left until the end of the first half, the 11th graders completed a long passing play, but resulted in a turnover on downs. At halftime, the score was 8-6 with the seniors on top.
The 12th graders started the first half with a touchdown, and put themselves up 14-6. Their defense then put together a stop on defense, and the offense responded with another touchdown. This would prove to be enough, as the final score of the game was 28-14, with the Seniors winning the 19th annual Parkland High School Garter Bowl.
