'Barktoberfest' Tops Fall Recreation Lineup

Barktoberfest is just one of many fall recreation programs scheduled in Upper Macungie Township.

Yes, it's still July and we still have the entire month of August's heat and humidity to deal with.

But, the Upper Macungie Recreation Board has put together a cool list of fall activities for residents, highlighted by the first ever Barktoberfest.

The event will take place at the dog park at Route 100 Park on Saturday, Oct. 19, featuring a dog costume contest, a parade and other events. Barktoberfest runs from noon to 3 p.m. and the rain date is Sunday, Oct. 20.

Township officials say 30 vendors, two food trucks and a high-flying canine act from New Jersey are also lined up for the event.

A special presentation is scheduled to Kristen Hickey and Anna Colanduoni of Girl Scout Troop 6932, who started the initiative for the dog park a their community service project.

Other Upper Macungie Township fall recreation events include:

Psychic Medium Lauri Moore at Independent Park on Oct. 10. at 7 p.m.

The 5K Run/Walk for Parks at Lone Lane Park on Nov. 3 at 9 a.m.
