ReplyMr. Brunell is a one-trick pony at township meetings, and taxes are his only concern. While none of us want to be taxed to death I really don't feel like that's the case in Upper Macungie Twp. I live in Mr. Brunell's neighborhood and pay $176.45 a year in township taxes. For that amount I get a full-time police department, three well-equipped and trained volunteer fire departments, good roads, great parks and an active recreation commitee. At our most recent township meeting the big problems were two trucks parking on a township road and what to do with an abandoned private park. If Mr. Brunell is that worried about tax bills maybe he should be running for the school board.

ReplyJust to clarify the story a little bit, the Pool Association is asking for the township to transfer ownership of the park to the swim club. The swim club is offering to pay for new playground equipment, but they'd like the township to be responsible for the grass, trash, and trees. From a legal standpoint the township should not cut grass on what would now be the private property of the swim club. If the swim club wants the land they should have to take full responsibility for the maintenance of the park, and provide some assurances that the park would remain in place and open to the public.

ReplyI enjoy getting 'Yocco'd' as much as the next guy, but two spots in the Top 10? Can't believe Paese Mio isn't on this list! Time to go to Yelp! and write a review!

ReplyThanks for communicating your thoughts on this Commissioner and for taking a smart approach to the budget process. The first budget proprosal you spoke of was an irresponsible and short-sighted attempt by some grandstanders to say they cut the budget and taxes without getting any blood on their hands. I'm not sure what makes them think that you can cut taxes and spending in equal amounts and still reduce the structural deficit. There is still work to be done to our county finances in the next several years but hopefully you and the county executive can lead the way in making the tough decisions that you will face. Just like in our federal government we need smart people to work together and stop grandstanding over political positions.
