Regional trout fishing season begins March 30. Here's everything you need to know to prepare for the trout season in Upper Macungie.

Trout season is fast approaching in Lehigh County with state and local officials getting ready for the annual rush of anglers who are anxious to test the waters. The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission has announced its plans to stock local waters in the Upper Macungie area with both brown and rainbow trout. Historically, Upper Macungie Township stocks the Ponds at Apple Park in Fogelsville with trout for the pleasure of local anglers. The regional opening day of trout season is Saturday, March 30. However, prior to heading out, several state rules and regulations must be followed before you can bait that hook or rig that lure. A regular state fishing license costs $22.70, but if you want to catch trout, the cost is an additional $9.70 for…

Presidential Election

The Man Who Wins Lehigh Valley Will Win Pa.

The Lehigh Valley is a great predictor of how Pennsylvania will vote in presidential elections.

Muhlenberg College professor and pollster Christopher Borick won’t predict who is going to win Tuesday's presidential election. And he won’t say who will take Pennsylvania. But he will say this: “I’m very confident that who ever wins the Valley will win Pennsylvania.” The Lehigh Valley, with its cities, suburbs and rural areas, has become a bellwether for Pennsylvania politics. In 2008, both Northampton and Lehigh counties went for Barack Obama, just like the state. The Lehigh Valley went for Democrats John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000, as did Pennsylvania as whole. “Pennsylvania hasn’t been a very good predictor of elections,” said Borick, director of the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion. But “the Lehigh Valley as a …

Mom Sentenced for Trying to Pull Son's Arms Off

Chelsie Grant, 19, of Lower Milford, was sentenced in Lehigh County Court to 1 to 2 years in prison for abuse of her 6-month-old son.

A Lehigh County judge sentenced a Lower Milford woman Friday to one to two years in prison and 18 years' probation for abusing her 6-month-old son earlier this year. Chelsie Grant, 19, who pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault, faced 10 to 20 years in prison under sentencing guidelines. Her guity plea and other mitigating circumstances, including her low intelligence, mental health and remorse, contributed to the short jail sentence, Judge James T. Anthony said. "It's a very serious crime you committed," Anthony said. "You are obviously not capable of raising a child." Anthony criticized the adults in her family for not contacting Lehigh County Children and Youth earlier. The child's paternal grandmother, who has custody of the boy, …
