Construction work has begun on Bimbo Bakeries' state-of-the-art bakery plant located at 105 Boulder Drive in Upper Macungie. Bimbo Bakeries is building its new facility on 30 acres. The site is across from Ocean Spray's new facility, which is currently also under construction. Construction of the 240,000-square-foot plant is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Library Executive Director Debbie Jack said efforts are ongoing to raise money to build the new library at Grange and Ruppsville roads.
Parkland Community Library has no timetable for its long-planned move from South Whitehall to Upper Macungie, library Executive Director Debbie Jack said Monday. Library officials had hoped to construct a new 30,200-square-foot building and move in by December 2012, but there has not yet been a groundbreaking. Library officials are still pursuing funding and fund-raising. "We're at the end of our capital campaign, and we hope to finalize plans sometime within the next year," Jack said. "We're seeking additional funding from grants and foundations types. We'll also see where we're at concerning obtaining financing." Upper Macungie supervisors voted 3-0 Thursday night to approve juicemaker Ocean Spray's request to downsize its planned 315,000-square-foot bottling facility on 44 acres between Schantz Road and Route 100 to 225,000 square feet. Director of Community Development Kenneth Moloney said company representatives made the request to the township's planning board in mid-July and the request was passed conditionally for the board's unanimous vote. "I think they figured that they may be able to operate just as well in a smaller facility," Moloney said. The $110 million project, which has the backing of Gov.
