Tough Mudder Could Cause 7,000-Car Traffic Mess June 1-2

A Tough Mudder event, scheduled near North Whitehall Township on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, may bring 7,000 vehicles per day through Upper Macungie Township roads.

A Tough Mudder event, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2 at Raven Valley Farm near North Whitehall Township, could prove tough for Upper Macungie Township motorists. That's because preliminary traffic plans, which have been submitted to Upper Macungie Township officials, call for more than 7,000 vehicles each day to park in fields behind the Weis Markets in Fogelsville off Route 100. The fields, according to Upper Macungie Supervisor Sam Ashmar, are owned by Jaindl Land Co. David Jaindl, president of Jaindl Farms in North Whitehall and Jaindl Land Company, recently announced that the farm company has agreed to lease 400 acres in Heidelberg and Lynn townships for the Tough Mudder challenge. More than 22,000 people are expected …

I agree, Jaindl seems to be out of control with all the developments and now this. Is he going to pay for the needed extra police presence? Does he even care about the quality of life in UMT or just the dollar?   more ›

Weis Gas-N-Go Entrance Should Be Moved, Planners Say

The Upper Macungie Planning Commission wants to examine plans for the proposed Gas-N-Go fuel station.

The Upper Macungie Planning Commission declined to give approval Wednesday night to a proposed Weis Gas-N-Go fuel station at 7801 Glenlivet Drive in Fogelsvile. According to a report in The Morning Call, planners want changes to the eight-pump station before giving approval. Those changes include moving the entrance to accommodate traffic flow during busy periods. Once planners give their approval, the plans move on to the Board of Supervisors for its OK. Now, that may not happen until July. Weis Markets took the first step in its quest to build the fuel station in March at the Fogelsville location when it received a use variance from the Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board. The prospect of additional retail stores at the Fogelsville Weis …

Weis Gas Station Goes to Planners Wednesday

A final plan for the proposed Weis Gas-N-Go fuel station is scheduled to go before the Upper Macungie Planning Commission.

Plans for a Weis Gas-N-Go fuel station, which would be at the Weis shopping center at 7801 Glenlivet Drive in Fogelsvile, will go before the Upper Macungie Planning Commission Wednesday night. Weis Markets took the first step in its quest to build the fuel station in March  at the Fogelsville location, when it received a use variance for the property last Wednesday night from the Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board. This Wednesday's hearing will focus on the preliminary/final building plan for the fuel station site. Ultimately, township supervisors will have the last word on the project once planners give their recommendation. That could happen as early as June's supervisors meeting, if the planning commission gives it approval to the …

What Goes Here? The Weis Markets Shopping Center in Fogelsville

Upper Macungie Patch wants to know what types of stores and businesses you'd like to see in the new Weis Markets shopping center.

What kinds of businesses do you want to shop at within the Weis Markets shopping center in Fogelsville? Expanding the shopping experience at the shopping center, located on Route 100 off Glenlivet Drive West, became closer to reality recently when Upper Macungie Supervisors approved a preliminary plan for construction. What we'd like to know is what types of stores you'd like to see to complement your shopping experience along the Route 100 corridor. Upper Macungie Patch reported in December that a popular Schuylkill County restaurant that was damaged by fire in June is considering a move to Upper Macungie in 2013 and sought a liquor license transfer to 7801 Glenlivet Drive. A Gas-N-Go fuel station is also proposed for the shopping center…

A liquor store would be great! Also a Dunkin Donuts (not a Starbucks), a hair-cutting salon (for men, women & children), a health-food store that sells organic/natural and gluten free foods (a Trader Joe's would be fine!), a really good Bagel shop, an excellent (but not too expensive) bakery/pastry shoppe, an UPS store, and a Dollar Store!   more ›

Weis Shopping Center Could Get More Stores

Upper Macungie Supervisors give preliminary approval to a plan for building stores at the Fogelsville Weis shopping center.

The prospect of additional retail stores at the Fogelsville Weis shopping center at Route 100 and Glenlivet Drive West took a step forward recently when Upper Macungie Supervisors approved a preliminary lot consolidation plan. Engineers representing Weis Markets said ground at the site could still start being prepared for construction by June. The 2.906-acre property plan, which has undegone some minor changes since last presented to the township, would house a 9,375-square-foot multi-use retail establishment. The second retail building is pegged at 8,400 square feet. Site improvements will consist of at least 104 new parking spaces, up from 99, and access and utilities for three new facilities. A Gas-N-Go fuel station is also planned for …

Weis Submits Fresh Plans for Retail Stores

Engineers have said they hope construction can start in June, once all proposals are approved.

Engineers representing Weis Markets will resubmit a land development plan to Upper Macungie planners Wednesday night for retail stores planned at the Fogelsville location. The owner of the property at 7801 Glenlivet Drive West, Weis Markets Inc. of Sunbury, and the equitable owner, Route 100 Associates LLP of Hamburg, submitted plans to township planners in February and March. The 2.906-acre property plan would house a 9,375-square-foot multi-use retail establishment. The second retail building is pegged at 8,400 square feet. Site improvements will consist of at least 99 new parking spaces, access and utilities for the three new facilities. Engineers have previously said they hope construction can start in June, once all proposals are …

Weis Gas Station in Fogelsville Gets Zoners OK

The Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board granted a use variance to Weis Markets for its proposed Gas-N-Go fuel station. However, no timetable has been set for construction.

Weis Markets took the first step in its quest to build a Gas-N-Go fuel station in Fogelsville, when it received a use variance for the property Wednesday night from the Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board. Zoning officer Daren Martocci said the proposed gas station received the use variance as an accessory use for the property at Route 100 and Glenlivet Drive West, where the current supermarket stands. Martocci said Weis will now need to come forward with land development plans that must be approved by the Upper Macungie Planning Board. Ultimately, the township supervisors will have the last word on the project once planners give their recommendation. No timetable has been set for construction, Martocci said, as the township has not …

Is A Gas Station Coming to Fogelsville Weis?

A 'Gas-N-Go' fuel station could be constructed on the site, as the company will come before the Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board next week to ask for a variance.

A new gasoline station could be coming to Fogelsville in the near future, courtesy of Weis Markets. The Sunbury-based company is scheduled to appear before the Upper Macungie Zoning Hearing Board on March 13 to ask for a variance allowing  construction of a “Gas-N-Go” fuel station in conjunction with the existing Weis Market store. The property is located at northwest corner of the intersection of Route 100 and Glenlivet Drive West. It isn't the first retail space planned for the new complex. Recently, township planners heard from developers concerning the construction of three retail outlets in the shopping center, including a multi-use building, a bank, and a restaurant with a liquor license. Last week, Upper Macungie Patch asked readers…
