What's Open and Closed on Veterans Day?

Veterans Day was Sunday but most businesses and governments offices are observing the holiday today.

In observance of Veterans Day, here is what's open and closed Monday, Nov. 12. Upper Macungie Township municipal offices are closed.  Parkland School District and St. Joseph the Worker schools are open.  Parkland Community Library is open. Lehigh County Courthouse is closed.  Lehigh County Government offices are closed. District Judge Michael Faulkner's office in Upper Macungie is closed. State offices are closed. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation driver's license and photo centers are closed. (Online services are available. www.dmv.state.pa.us) Most Pennsylvania Liquor stores are open. There are more than 21 million veterans in the United States and Patch says "thank you" on Veterans Day!

Here's a rundown of Veterans Day 2012 facts from the U.S. Census Bureau: Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Thank a veteran! Add your note of thanks in our comments section below. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who served in all American wars. I wish to let it be known that my brother, Charles Royer, attended Lincoln Tech in the fifties and I taught there for many decades much later, many, many decades later. Charlie is a veteran of the Air Force where he helped to defend us all as a warrior in the air serving as an aerial radio operator before they had heat in the aircraft. And guess where he served?
