South Whitehall Planning Commission approved a higher density rezoning for Blue Barn Meadows. Thirty-two acres of the development are in South Whitehall, the remainder are in Upper Macungie Township.
Blue Barn Meadows, a 200-unit townhouse development, has been proposed for the 1500 block of Blue Barn Road. Owner Posocco Equities successfully petitioned the South Whitehall Planning Commission Thursday to rezone 11 of the 40-acre development to allow higher density housing. The land had been zoned R4 medium density, which permits only single-family detached houses. Frank Posocco paid $1.3 million for 40 acres on Blue Barn Road, between Chapmans and Crackersport roads, which includes a horse farm. Thirty-two acres of the development are in South Whitehall, the remainder are in Upper Macungie Township. The land abuts an industrial zone. Upper Macungie residents took advantage of the gorgeous weather this week to take advantage of the riding trails, walking trails and playgrounds that Bob Rodale Cycling & Fitness Park provides. A district judge dismisses a citation against a Best Western Hotel manager accused of throwing a cigarette in a guest's face over a room rate dispute.
A former Best Western hotel manager had a harasment citation formally dropped Thursday by District Judge Michael Faulkner after the alleged victim failed to file charges. Jessenia Mateo, 35, of Allentown was cited for harassment in March after Upper Macungie Police responded to a call about a disturbance at the Best Western Hotel at 5650 Tilghman St. At the time, police said Mateo threw a cigarette at a female guest during an argument in the hotel lobby over room rates. Upper Macungie Police officer Matt Gardner told Faulkner that the woman was living at the hotel at the time and was "adamant about filing charges." However, Gardner told Faulkner that despite numerous attempts by phone and subpoena, the woman failed to respond. Faulkner …

The national average for self-serve gas has increased for ten straight days to the highest price in more than a month, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The national average this for a gallon is $3.588, up 4.9 cents from last week, but still about 14 cents lower than a year ago. But according to the report, the year over year difference will likely continue to fade due to higher crude oil prices and refinery maintenance that decreases supply. In the Lehigh Valley, the average price of self-serve gasoline is $3.439 per gallon, 2.2 cents higher than a week ago, 8.7 cents lower than a month ago and 26.6 cents lower than a year ago.
