Grandpa Scammed Out of $4,000

Caller tells Lower Macungie man that his grandson has been arrested in Mexico and needs bail money, police say.

They have differing characters and plots, but a scam by any other name is . . . still a scam. The variables are, of course, what makes this type of scam believable to some. That and the urgency that is always involved. Act now! That's always the common theme. And it's insisted upon to prompt an irrational response and one to act before checking facts. This scam occurred on Sept. 20 to a man on Alexander Drive in Lower Macungie Township. A caller told the man that his grandson had been arrested in Mexico and needed bail money, according to state police at Fogelsville. The victim sent $4,000 via Western Union to Mexico. PennDOT, Police Target Labor Day DUI

PennDOT and state police will target impaired drivers to curb the worsening problem of drunken or drugged driving.

State and local police, along with PennDOT, will take part in a national enforcement effort through Labor Day on Sept. 3, targeting motorists driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.   The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” effort will target impaired drivers and highlight the worsening problem of drugged driving.  “As we remind motorists to drive sober for the Labor Day holiday, we also want to raise awareness of the growing safety threat that drugged drivers present,” PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch said. “While overall DUI crashes are trending downward, we’re seeing a troubling increase in drug-related crashes each year.” PennDOT statistics for 2011 show there were 3,073 drug-related crashes statewide, with 116 fatalities in …

They should be more worried about the daily accidents happening (killing innocent people) because people do not know how to read and follow the speed limit (especially trucks)....When are they going to take this matter seriously? How many more people have to die because a truck driver has a time frame to meet or is sleep deprived and not paying attention?   more ›

Fogelsville Man Killed in Bicycle Accident

The accident happened this morning in Weisenberg Township.

State Police and the Lehigh County Coroner's office are investigating the death of a Fogelsville man who was riding a bicycle when he was involved in a morning crash with a car in Weisenberg Township. Police said Andrew Price, 43, was riding the bicycle at the intersection of Boger Stadt and Valley roads when the crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. The Lehigh County Coroner pronounced Price dead at 11:16 a.m. State Police at Fogelsville and the coroner's office are investigating.

The following information was supplied by troopers at the barracks in Fogelsville. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following are Lower Macungie Township incidents recently released by state police at Fogelsville: Theft of property lost, mislaid or delivered by mistake: Reported April 16 by William Willever, 88, of Breinigsville at Wal-Mart, 1091 Mill Creek Road; several recently purchased items that were mislaid in a shopping cart were taken in the parking lot, police said; no value given. Charged: Corey Andrew Romero, 18, of Emmaus; at 2:49 a.m. April 22 with underage drinking; police said he had consumed alcohol and was found walking down Cedar Crest Boulevard at Riverbend Road. Charged: Dana Carole Evans, 44, of Alburtis; April 24 with retail theft; filled her vehicle with $51.46 woth of gasoline at the Giant Food Stores gas station at 7150 …

State Police Commander Hired as Township Chief

Upper Macungie supervisors choose Edgardo A. Colón, station commander at Troop M Fogelsville, to lead a new police department that hasn't been created yet.

  When Edgardo A. Colón retires from the Pennsylvania State Police on Aug. 17 to take a new job, he will extend his commute by about 50 feet. Colon, who is station commander at Troop M in Foglesville, works next door to the Upper Macungie Township building, where he signed on Thursday night to become police chief of the township's own department. Upper Macungie doesn't have it's own force yet, but has voted to leave the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police. The township plans to have a new police department in place by Jan. 1, 2013. Starting Aug. 20, Colon, 45, of Bethlehem will work as a consultant with the township as it makes the transition from being part of the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department to developing its own force. Man Urinates on Schantz Road

Gary Owen Gross, no address given, pulled off the road and urinated in front of businesses.

State Police at Fogelsville said 48-year-old Gary Owen Gross was cited at 12:28 p.m. Feb. 19 for pulling over and urinating on Schantz Road, west of Route 100 in Upper Macungie Township. Police said disorderly conduct charges are pending. Several businesses were located where Gross relieved himself. Police did not provide an address for Gross.

State Police Catch Upper Macungie Speeders

State Police Aerial Reconnaissance and Enforcement program tickets drivers on I-78

The Pennsylvania State Police's Aerial Reconnaissance and Enforcement program ticketed four drivers in Upper Macungie Township on Interstate 78 last week, according to a report in The Morning Call. The report said earlier in the month that 13 drivers were ticketed for speeding on I-78 with the fastest moving at 97 mph. The report said state police will continue to use the program to contain speeders.

State Police Re-Dedicate Station House in Fogelsville

The Pennsylvania State Police, Fogelsville re-dedicated its station house Sept. 28 after 6 months of renovations to the 1993 building in Upper Macungie.

Pennsylvania State Police re-dedicated its Fogelsville station Wednesday just two days after the same troop announced it had been able to help arrest a suspect in a brutal double homicide. Lt. Edgardo Colon, commander of the Fogelsville station, said the arrest of Brandin Lee Kasick underscored the importance of having a modern police station, and he dedicated the renovated barracks to the men and women who serve there.
