St. Joseph the Worker Women's Guild CraftFest is today, Nov. 10, and Sunday, Nov. 11, in Orefield. More than 40 vendors will have original items for sale at the church hall, and there will be lunch with homemade halupki, halushki, periogi, turkey and beef barbecue and hot dogs. Fogelsville boy chosen to wear the new mascot's costume this school year
Question: What’s navy blue with white trim and sports the logo for St. Joseph the Worker School? Answer: The Blue Knight, the Orefield school’s new mascot. This is the 15th year of operation for St. Joseph the Worker School. With that in mind, the school’s principal, Jody Myers, said she looked for “things that brand St. Joe’s.” That got her to thinking and Myers decided during the previous school year to poll Mike Storino’s 7th grade Religion class – students who would be entering their final year this fall at the school – for ideas about a school mascot. Once the idea of the Blue Knight was suggested, Myers said, it received “lots of support.” The school’s Parent Teacher Organization purchased a professional mascot costume from …

Last weekend marked the unofficial start of summer for members of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Orefield, which held its annual parish festival. The festival was held June 17 through June 19 in the parking lot of the parish center. The event, which raises money for the parish and school, brought out families and individuals of all ages. And although school had only recently let out, that didn’t stop St. Joseph students and their friends from turning out to their stomping grounds for the festival fun. “My son is here with a friend who goes to school at St. Joseph’s,” said Jessica Kaschnatz. “We finally decided to see what the fuss was about this year, and now I see what we were missing.” The parking lot was lined with food stands boasting…
Construction is expected to begin in September and last about six months.
St. Joseph the Worker parish in Orefield plans to build a significant addition to the church’s chapel, as it seeks pledges to cover the cost of construction. The church applied to South Whitehall on Friday for a building permit for the $389,000 project, which calls for adding 1,892-square-feet to the chapel and increasing seating to 104 from 15. Msgr. Robert Wargo, who is pastor of St. Joseph the Worker, said the church did not sponsor a capital campaign and instead has sought pledges. The freewill offering is on-going. So far, the church has pledges totaling $271,000 and has collected $137,000. Wargo said the importance of an expanded chapel is threefold. Firstly, he said, “We’ve been increasing the number of people who come for …
