Senior Care Facility Plans Denied by Planners

The Planning Commission did not approve plans for the Above and Beyond Personal Care Facility yet, but said they are getting close.

Representatives for the Above and Beyond Personal Care Facility resubmitted their plan to the Upper Macungie Planning Commission Wednesday night, but no approval was granted. The owners of the 7.3-acre property at 5844 Daniel St., off Cetronia Road, want to construct a two-story, 100-bed nursing home on the site. The planning commission had received correspondence from affected homeowners living near the proposed facility asking that the property owner provide a good amount of natural landscaping buffer. "It's a very sensitive area," Township engineer Dean Haas said. "We're trying to make sure that we're not disrupting neighborhood properties." David M. Bray, project coordinator with Jena Engineering, told the commission that he has …

Jaindl's Plan to Rezone Land has a new Twist

Jaindl Land Company seeks to rezone two parcel along Route 100 and subdivide one of them.

The Jaindl Land Company withdrew from the Upper Macungie Township Planning Commission agenda Wednesday night, but representatives showed up anyway to explain why. Jaindl told the commissioners that there is a new twist to his plans for two land parcels along Route 100 – to subdivide one of them. Jaindl appeared before the commission last month to request the rezoning of the two properties: The first parcel, 60 acres, at the southwest corner of Schantz Road and Rt. 100, is currently zoned Highway Commercial, and Jaindl wants it rezoned to Light Industrial. The second parcel, 39 acres, at the southwest intersection of Industrial Boulevard and Rt. 100 is zoned Light Industrial, and the company wants it rezoned to Highway Commercial. The …

These issues should be a reminder that the position that was once held by Bruce needs to be filled with someone with the appropriate skills and background to handle these issues and interface between the community, the township Engineer, the township Solicitor, and the Township supervisors. This township is not "built out". Perhaps this is a position that can be combined with a Township Managers …   more ›

Jaindl Land Company Seeks Rezoning on Route 100

David Jaindl and engineers from The Pidcock Company make a presentation to the Upper Macungie Planning Commission to rezone two parcels on Route 100.

The Jaindl Land Company, headed by David Jaindl, made an appeal to the Upper Macungie Planning Commission Wednesday, Sept. 21, for rezoning two parcels of land along Rt. 100. The first parcel, at the southwest corner of Schantz Road and Rt. 100, is currently zoned Highway Commercial, and Jaindl wants it rezoned to Light Industrial. Conversely, the second parcel at the southwest intersection of Industrial Boulevard and Rt. 100 is zoned Light Industrial, and the company wants it rezoned to Highway Commercial. Highway Commercial zoning allows for shopping centers, hotels and restaurants whereas Light Industrial only allows for warehousing and manufacturing. “Essentially, we are swapping the zoning of the two parcels,” said J. Scott Pidcock of…

You are kidding, right? This is such a waste of time, the zoning board will approve anything that Jaindl land wants to do, just make it look like they are "holding standards". Look at all the empty strip malls on route 100, empty lots where businesses had to move. Let's see how they notify us all of the public hearing. Page 8 small print. What a joke, just look at DHL sitting empty on Oldt Road. …   more ›

Planners Approve Tilghman Street Subdivision Plans

Compass Business Center wants to build mini-warehouses at Snowdrift Road and Tilghman Street.

Upper Macungie Township Planning Commissioners approved last night the preliminary plans for 11 flex-office buildings to be built near 3140 Tilghman Street. That parcel includes 15 acres where the Georgia Pacific facility is also located. The plan calls for carving 4 acres from that land at Snowdrift Road and Tilgman Street into a subdivision for 11 small warehouse-type buildings. Each building would have two units of about 1,500 square feet each. The project is being developed by Compass Business Center, LLC. Owner/Manager George Busch said the smaller-sized units would fulfill the need of smaller businesses that do not require the much larger warehouse spaces generally available in the area. “These facilities are often built as rows of …
