The Hess station at 3640 Route 309 sold a $1 million prize-winning Powerball ticket for the March 23 drawing and a $371,000 ticket in February. A $1 million winning Powerball ticket from Saturday night's drawing was sold at the Hess Express, located at 3640 Route 309 in Orefield.

An extension filed through Friday will allow Corbett more time to consider options.
Gov. Tom Corbett's chance to accept a bid from a British firm to manage the Pennyslvania lottery was about to run out. Had it not extended its offer, the firm's $3.5-billion bid would have expired Saturday at 5 p.m. According to 6ABC, a "top budget aide to Gov. Tom Corbett" has announced the extension. The extra time is designed to allow Corbett's office more time to consider options. The changes come on the heels of last week's announcement by Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane who rejected Corbett' initial plan. "It is our duty to defend and protect the Constitution of our Commonwealth and that is what our office has done by declining this contract," Kane said on Friday. Could privatizing the lottery mean fewer people will play?
Pennsylvanians do not want their lottery to be privatized, as Gov. Tom Corbett is proposing, according to a new Franklin & Marshall College Poll. The poll found that 47 percent of those polled strongly opposed the privatization with 17 somewhat opposing it. Only 7 percent were strongly in favor with 11 percent being somewhat in favor of the move. Most people polled, 75 percent, said they would play the lottery about the same amount as they do now if it were privatized, but a not insignificant number of people, 19 said they would play less frequently. The Franklin & Marshall College Poll interviewed 622 Pennsylvania voters between January 29 and February 3. The margin of error is reported as plus or minus 3.9 percentage points. A recent …

Someone in the Easton area -- or at least someone who shops there -- is sitting on a $1 million lottery ticket. The Pennsylvania Lottery says Ike's Exxon station in Wilson sold one of four $1 million tickets from the Jan. 5 drawing. Workers at Ike's said Monday afternoon they had no idea who bought the ticket. The store -- and any retailer who sells a winning $1 million ticket -- gets a $5,000 bonus. Whoever won has a year to claim the prize at Pennsylvania Lottery headquarters in Dauphin County, the lottery said in a news release. The four winning numbers were 00023446, 00075876, 00158528 and 00222718. The other three tickets were sold in Cumberland, Lycoming and Jefferson counties, the lottery said.

The state received a bid from Camelot Global Services, which runs the National Lottery in the United Kingdom. Camelot estimates it would bring annual profit commitment of $12.1 billion in the first 10 years. Projections for a 20-year period, assuming a 27 percent mandated rate of return, would yield more than $34 billion in profits, according to the official bid tabulation. As the Powerball® jackpot has reached a game-record $425 million annuity value, or a $278.3 million cash prize, for the Wednesday, Nov. 28 drawing, the Pennsylvania Lottery today reminded its customers to play responsibly. Only one U.S. lottery jackpot has ever been larger: the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot on March 30, 2012, which was claimed as a $471 million cash prize.
