Parkland's 'Phantom' Wins Top Freddy Award

Parkland High School's 'Phantom of the Opera' took home six Freddy Awards Thursday, including for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical.

Parkland High School's production of "Phantom of the Opera" took home six Freddy Awards, including Outstanding Overall Production, at the 11th annual broadcast at the State Theatre in Easton Thursday night. Parkland, which had been nominated in 15 categories, took home the most awards. The show was broadcast live on WFMZ Channel 69. Parkland won for outstanding overall production as well as in costuming, featured female ensemble member, chorus, actress in a supporting role and actor in a leading role. Parkland Crowns Prom King and Queen

Parkland High School's prom was held at the Ice Palace.

Parkland High School held its senior prom earlier this month and crowned King Grady Millick  and Queen Camille Roberts.  Others on the prom court included Adam Groff, Luke Klecan, Akil Lewis, Xavier Roden, Paul Tajiri, Samantha Chubenko, Lizzy Mirth, Savannah Derr, Montana Leaks and Sarah Whittaker.

Parkland Girls Soccer Team Players Recognized for Volunteer Efforts

The Parkland Girls Soccer team stepped forward with 12 student athletes, assisting in coaching and mentoring the children in the Allentown Youth Soccer Club intramural program this spring.

8 Will Join Parkland Athletic Hall of Fame

Parkland High School will recognize eight of its best student athletes by inducting them into the school's athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Parkland High School will recognizes some of its best student-athletes by inducting them into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame. This year's induction will take place on Wednesday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m., immediately following the varsity letter winner's award ceremony. Current senior athletes from fall and winter sports and senior athletes from the previous year's spring sports teams are automatically inducted through selection to an All-State or All American teams or by winning an individual PIAA state championship. Parkland may also select alumni who have excelled in athletics beyond their high school playing days or other individuals who have served Parkland athletics in an exemplary fashion. Parkland Festival of the Arts Continues Through Saturday

Parkland's 10th annual Festival of the Arts features high school students and community members taking part in visual and performing arts.

Parkland's annual three-day Festival of the Arts begins Thursday on the grounds of the high school, offering the public a mix of arts and entertainment, including a student art show, spring chorus concert, a battle of the bands, the Parkland's Got Talent competition and dance showcase. 'Parkland's Got Talent' Looking for Contestants

The Parkland Festival of the Arts is looking for contestants to perform in its first 'Parkland's Got Talent' competition.

The Parkland Festival of the Arts, which will be holding its first "Parkland's Got Talent" competition, is looking for contestants—and they do not have to be students. The festival will be held May 16-18 at Parkland High School. Mark A Stutz, director of visual and performing arts at Parkland High School, said they are looking for adults or college students from the district to compete in Parkland's Got Talent, which will be held at 7 p.m. May 17 at the high school. "Jugglers, dancers, magicians, etc. are all welcome to submit a YouTube video or a CD/DVD," Stutz wrote in an e-mail. Parkland Softball Fighting for LVC Tournament Berth

The Trojan softball team already has a District 11 playoff berth sewn up, but its final two Lehigh Valley Conference games will determine if it qualifies for the LVC tourney. The Parkland coaching staff says the season has been a successful one.

The final week of the regular season in high school softball finds the Parkland High School squad fighting for a berth in the Lehigh Valley Conference playoffs. Games against LVC North Division leader Northampton and the season finale against Whitehall on Thursday will determine the Trojans' postseason conference fate. However, a 14-4 overall record and a 9-3 conference record have sewn up a District 11 playoff berth later this month. The coaching staff, led by head coach Barry Search, said that the Parkland girls have competed hard and that the overall season is considered a success. Patch was on hand at Monday's practice to watch the Trojan softball team prepare for its final two regular-season games.

Parkland Baseball Primed for Playoff Push

The Trojan baseball team boasts a 12-2 overall record with six games to go before the Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 playoffs begin.

The Parkland High School baseball team is preparing for its playoff push with six games remaining in the regular season. The Trojans sport a 12-2 overall record and an 8-1 mark in Lehigh Valley Conference play. They trail Whitehall High School by one game in the loss column for first place in the LVC North division. Parkland finishes its season May 9 with a home game against Whitehall that will likely determine if the Trojans can garner at least a share of the LVC North crown. Coach Tony Galucy says the team is in the midst of 10 games in 12 days and credits his young pitching staff as the strength of the team. Galucy noted the offense is coming around, especially after scoring 12 runs this week against Allentown Central Catholic. LVC …

Admiral, Surgeon, CEO Among 6 Parkland Honorees

Six Parkland High School alumni will be inducted into the Wall of Honor Monday at the 2013 Masquerade Gala.

A surgeon, a culinary professor, a retired Coast Guard admiral and business leaders are among the six alumni to be inducted Monday into the Parkland School District Education Foundation's Distinguished Alumni Wall of Honor. The Wall of Honor was established last year and is inside the main entrance of Parkland High School.  Those chosen to be inducted serve as an inspiration to students to achieve excellence and remind the community of Parkland’s commitment to a quality educational program, foundation officials said.
