$1M Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Orefield

A $1 million winning Powerball ticket from Saturday night's drawing was sold at the Hess Express, located at 3640 Route 309 in Orefield.

Two jackpot-winning Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball tickets worth a combined $2 million were sold in Lehigh and Montgomery counties, according to Pennsylvania Lottery officials. A winning $1 million ticket from Saturday night's drawing was sold at the Hess Express location at 3640 Route 309 in Orefield. Last month, the store sold a winning $371,000 Cash 5 ticket. Another $1 million winning Powerball ticket was sold at 7-Eleven, 255 W. Horsham Road, Horsham, Montgomery County. Each winning ticket correctly matched all five white balls, 17-29-31-52-53, but not the red Powerball 31, to win individual prizes of $1 million, less 25 percent federal withholding. Hess Gas Stations to Be Sold

Hess Corp. is getting out of the retail gas business and is expected to sell its gas stations including Hess Express on Route 309 in Orefield.

Hess Corp. is getting out of the retail gas business and that means it is going to unload its gas stations that dot busy Lehigh Valley roads including a location at 3640 Route 309 in Orefield, which is a Hess Express location. Update: A Hess spokesman Tuesday said stores would not be closing. A $371,00 winning Pennsylvania Lottery ticket was recently sold at the Orefield Hess Express location. Hess Express also has local stations on Hamilton Boulevard in South Whitehall Township, across from Dorney Park and at 5640 Hamilton Boulevard in Allentown. The 1,350 gas stations employ about half of the company's 14,700 workers, but account for just 4 percent of Hess Corp. revenue. It's not clear when the gas stations will close or be sold off. …

Lottery officials are waiting for the owner of a winning Cash 5 lottery ticket sold in Lehigh County to claim his/her prize.

The owner of a Cash 5 ticket worth more than $371,000 from the Feb. 22 drawing sold at Hess, 3640 Route 309, Orefield, hasn't claimed his/her prize yet, lottery officials told Patch on Thursday. It sometimes takes a few weeks for the winner to come forward, they said. The ticket correctly matched all five balls, 02-17-23-24-36, to win a jackpot of $371,418.50, less 25 percent federal withholding. The Hess store will receive a $500 bonus for selling a winning ticket. A Cash 5 ticket worth $225,000 from the Feb. 24 drawing was sold at Hess, 4002 Chestnut St., Emmaus. Three jackpot-winning Pennsylvania Lottery Cash 5 tickets worth a combined total of nearly $1 million were recently sold in Lehigh and York counties. Two Cash 5 tickets each worth more than $371,000 from the Feb. 22 drawing were sold at Hess, 3640 Route 309, Orefield, Lehigh County, and Smoker’s Express, 110 Old York Road, New Cumberland, York County. The tickets correctly matched all five balls, 02-17-23-24-36, to win a jackpot of $371,418.50, less 25 percent federal withholding. Each store will receive a $500 bonus for selling a winning ticket. Teen Steals Alcohol from Garage, Police Say

A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody Sunday in the 5000 block of Derrick Drive in Orefield, Upper Macungie Police said.

A 16-year-old boy from Allentown was taken into custody Sunday for stealing several bottles of alcohol from a garage in the 5000 block of Derrick Drive in Orefield, Upper Macungie Police said. Police said they responded to a call at 8:11 p.m. that a boy had entered the garage, where he was confronted by the homeowner, and had fled on foot. The homeowner reported several bottles of alcohol had been taken. Police said the boy was caught sometime later in the 6300 block of Farm Bureau Road. Police said the boy was taken into custody and remanded to the Lehigh County Juvenile Detention Center.

Underage Drinkers at House Party Cited, Police Say

The alleged underage drinking took place at the Weisenberg Township home of a Northwestern Lehigh School Board member, according to a report in The Morning Call.

Twelve people, including two from Fogelsville and three from Orefield, have been cited for underage drinking at a Feb. 3 party at a Weisenberg Township home, state police at Fogelsville said. The alleged underage drinking took place at 4542 Senny Court. The home is the residence of LeRoy Sorensen, vice-president of the Northwestern Lehigh School Board, according to a report by The Morning Call. State police said they cited Christopher Rice, 18, of Fogelsville; and Hunter Culp, 20, Christopher Ruch, 20, and Brett Austin, 18, all of Orefield, with underage drinking. A 16-year-old girl from Fogelsville was also cited, police said. Woman Killed in North Whitehall Crash Sunday

An Orefield woman was killed when her car hit a tree in North Whitehall Township on Sunday

Karen Beahn, 66, of Orefield was killed Sunday when her car hit a tree on Shankweiler Road around 5:30 p.m. in North Whitehall Township, according to a Morning Call report. State police from the Bethlehem barracks are investigating the accident, which caused multiple traumatic injuries that were fatal to Beahn.

Teen Killed in Crash Was Preparing for Baby's Birth

19-year-old Lehigh County man killed in rollover crash Friday

The 19-year-old killed in a Lehigh County crash on Friday night was a "strong, intelligent young man with a heart of gold," according to a friend's post on the victim's Facebook page. William David Bickford lived in Orefield and worked as an assembler at Blue Mountain Machine, Inc., according to his Facebook page. Bickford's last Facebook post was Thursday when he wrote about possible names for the baby his girlfriend is expecting: "For baby names we have this Jasmine Nicole Bickford, and Jayden Christopher Bickford like/no?"
