Lehigh Valley Tea Party Statement on IRS Scandal

The Lehigh Valley Tea Party issued this statement on the scandal over IRS targeting of Tea Party groups for scrutiny.

The Lehigh Valley Tea Party has followed the rules since its creation in 2009. Our organization has tried very hard to do everything the way we're supposed to. We consulted lawyers and advocacy experts about legal options for non-profit grassroots organizations, and applied to the IRS for tax exempt status just like non-profit groups engaged in all kinds of activities do all over the nation every day. We believe that the Lehigh Valley Tea Party provides a vehicle for patriotic Americans with a wide variety of political affiliations to voice their opinions and become more educated about the important issues of the day. We are not a political organization, and our group's bylaws specifically prevent us from endorsing or opposing political …

Well there we have it - Keeping your own money through a tax preference = receiving gov't money. So anybody who ever had a mortgage deduction had the gov't pay for it. You didn't buy that house, the gov't did! Why do we allow people to place political signs in the yards and windows of these gov't financed homes? When we follow these rules to their logical conclusions it devolves into absurdity. …   more ›

Tea Party to Host Pro-Gun Lawmaker Friday

The Lehigh Valley Tea Party will host state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, who will talk about his bill to outlaw federal gun control in Pennsylvania on Friday in Palmer Township.

State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) will speak Friday at a Lehigh Valley Tea Party meeting about his legislation that would make any new federal gun control laws unenforceable within the Commonwealth. Metcalfe will speak at 7 p.m. at the Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township. The program is free and open to the public. “Passage of my legislation will send the message that there will never be additional gun control, anywhere in Pennsylvania,” said Metcalfe. “Whether by White House executive orders, congressional fiat, or judicial activism, we will never allow the left to benefit from the wicked acts of murderers in order advance their senseless gun-grabbing agenda which would only succeed in replacing one of our most sacred personal …

How Will Sequestration Affect Upper Macungie?

Friday's possible government spending cuts triggered by sequestration could affect residents of Upper Macungie

Parkland School District could lose money for remedial and special education if automatic "sequestration" spending cuts trickle down from Washington, D.C. to the local level on Friday. "As a district, we don't get a whole lot of federal dollars, but (the sequestor) would definitely hurt us," Superintendent Richard Sniscak told Patch on Monday. "The money we receive from federal grants for restricted programs does help us provide these educational programs." Passengers at Lehigh Valley International Airport may have to wait in longer lines for security checks. And desperate homeowners facing foreclosure might not be able to get help from the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley. Statewide, cuts would eliminate job search …

Hear Hear! There are alot of other ways to cut spending without hurting valuable programs. Lehigh Valley Tea Party Calls for Government Cuts

The Lehigh Valley has issued a statement on the so-called 'fiscal cliff' government crisis

In response to the current 2013 Government Spending Crisis (deceptively called the “fiscal cliff”), the Lehigh Valley Tea Party (LVTP) asks our Representatives and Senators, as a first step toward a solution to this crisis, to vote for legislation cutting the size and power of government. The federal government cuts should start with eliminating the wasteful cost of departments performing improper functions of government at the federal level. The first federal departments to be abolished with the control of these functions picked up by the states are: Education, Energy, Health & Human Services, Commerce, and the Environmental Protection Agency.  These department eliminations will help to eradicate costly waste in addition to the abuse of …

Well, the grand deal of the moment is basically kicking any talk about spending cuts to a March deadline, meanwhile taxes go up. According to the Congressional Budget Office, if the sequestration (the so-called "fiscal cliff") stays in place, discretionary spending would grow from $1.047 to $1.147 trillion. That's right, a cut in growth, not a real cut. And federal workers and congress all get a …   more ›

Lehigh Valley Tea Party Will Fight After Obama's Win

President of Lehigh Valley Tea Party says organization will still tackle issues despite presidential election outcome.

The presidential election is over and despite the outcome, the president of the Lehigh Valley Tea Party said her organization will "keep on keeping on." For the past two Saturdays, Tea Party members were out rallying the troops in Allentown and Bethlehem to get people out to vote. Barb Walters, the chairwoman of the 800-member Lehigh Valley Tea Party, said she was disappointed by the turnout at the polls, despite criticism and concerns that the country wasn't improving in the past four years under President Barack Obama's tenure. "I was surprised at the numbers. They were down for the country," she said. "It was really shocking, coming from both sides." The Tea Party movement gained national recognition during the 2010 midterms in terms of…

continued... I know we did have a delegation of sorts that met with Harrisburg "leaders". Whether all the specifics you mention were brought up I do not know (I would be very surprised if they weren't) - they came back with pretty much the attitude that I've been displaying here, note I put "leaders" in quotes. Willard, you really don't have a clue do you? Come out and count for yourself, you're local. And it's really a shame how useless the tag "racist" has become since so many have decided to throw it around so carelessly. It probably does keep the more timid folk away, nobody likes to be called a racist. But it's pretty obvious from the overuse of it that it's just an all-purpose club to intimidate. …   more ›

The rallying cry has been issued. At its August monthly meeting, leaders of the Lehigh Valley Tea Party urged its members to get active this election campaign season. "We have to get the word out," President Barb Walters said during the meeting at the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township. "When we go out to community events, people don't know us. But we've been here four years," she said. "We need more of an outreach and get people to know the Tea Party." She suggested that members reach out to their local legislators, governments and school board to spread the Tea Party message. "We need to get active, get involved," member Bryan Eichfeld said. "There's the presidency, Senate, the new congressional district No. 17. Show up. …

Marcellus Shale Touted at LV Tea Party Program

Geologist discusses benefits of Marcellus Shale natural gas during talk before Lehigh Valley Tea Party Friday night.

Marcellus Shale has helped produce about 240,000 jobs, bolstered business for towns with wells and has enough regulations to ensure its safety as a natural resource. Those were some of the benefits that a geologist gave Friday night in her discussion about the "responsible development of shale" before members of the Lehigh Valley Tea Party. "It's definitely got a far-reaching impact," said Jennifer Huha, professional geologist and site operations manager for Groundwater and Environmental Services Inc. (GES) She was the guest speaker at the Tea Party's monthly meeting at the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township.
