Lehigh Valley Mall announced the Golden Corral will open a new restaurant on Thursday, Jan. 10 across from Macy’s on the Route 22 side of the mall, in the former Chi Chi’s parking lot. For nearly 40 years, Golden Corral has offered guests wholesome foods and a family friendly atmosphere at a great value. Best known for its legendary endless buffets, Golden Corral offers an abundant variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items. The Boscov's department store chain - which has stores at Lehigh Valley Mall and Palmer Park Mall - will stop selling major appliances and TVs to make more room for furniture, according to multiple reports. The stores will begin selling off major appliances and televisions at discounts of 30 percent or more. Large appliances including washers, dryers, refrigerators and stoves will be phased out; stores will continue to stock small appliances. Store Vice Chairman Jim Boscov told the Citizens Voice that there has been an increase in the company's furniture sales -- and from hearing customer feedback, he said he thinks that this is a department that needs more space in stores. A shoplifter hanged himself in county jail after allegedly stealing from both Palmer Park Mall and Lehigh Valley Mall.
About 10 days before he killed himself in a Lehigh County Prison cell Monday, a 23-year-old former Tatamy resident was charged in a shoplifting incident at Palmer Park Mall for which he was not jailed. But Justin Lee Bowyer was sent to Lehigh County Prison after a Nov. 9 (Friday) shoplifting incident at JC Penney in Lehigh Valley Mall, according to The Morning Call. That incident was his third retail theft arrest, The Call said. The Call story lists Bowyer’s address as 537 N. Fountain St., Allentown, which is near 9th and Allen streets. The criminal complaint for Bowyer’s Palmer Park Mall arrest on Nov. 2 lists his address as 627 Broad St., Tatamy. The complaint also states the incident was his second retail theft offense. The next generation iPhone is coming out later this month, Apple announced Wednesday, and there may be only one place to buy it. The Apple website points customers to the Apple store at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Townhip. The smartphone officially goes on sale Sept. 21 at 8 a.m., but all stores may not stock the iPhone 5 immediately. The new iPhone is thinner and lighter than the last two generations, but it is taller to accommodate the bigger screen, which is up from 3.5 inches. Apple says its processing speed also is much faster than its predecessors. Construction of a Golden Corral restaurant is scheuled to start Monday at the site of the former Chi-Chi's on Ring Road at Lehigh Valley Mall, according to a Morning Call report. The 400-seat restaurant could open in November. Lehigh Valley used to have a Golden Corral on Chestnut Street in Emmaus but that restaurant closed in 2005. The Whitehall Township retail strip already includes an Old Country Buffet at Whitehall Mall and several Asian buffets in nearby strip malls along MacArthur Road.
