Police Blotter

Police: 2 Men, One Armed, Run from Lehigh Motor Inn

The following information was supplied by Upper Macungie police.

  Two men -- one with a gun -- entered the office of the Lehigh Motor Inn Wednesday night but fled on foot when startled, Upper Macungie police said. Police were called to the inn, at 5828 Memorial Road, at 5:37 p.m. to investigate. Upper Macungie police were assisted by South Whitehall police in a search of the area for the men. Police provided the following descriptions: -- A white man, 5-feet-8 to 5-feet-10, who was dressed in black with a hood pulled over his head. -- A man, race unknown, about 6-feet, also dressed in black clothing. He had a hood over his head and a mask that covered his face. He brandished the gun. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 484-661-5911 or 610-437-5252.

Adult Bookstore Closes After 40 Years

The adult bookstore that anchored Tilghman and Blue Barn Road in Upper Macungie has closed after 40 years.

For more than 40 years the “Adult Books” sign at Blue Barn Road and Tilghman Street in Upper Macungie was a landmark in the community. The bookstore shared a parking lot with the Lehigh Motor Inn, but the store is now vacant, and the sign was taken down in late July, according to Township officials. The owner of the store could not be reached for comment, but the owner of the property, Minou Dasai, confirmed the Adult Books store has closed after more than 40 years at that location. Dasai also owns the Best Western on Tilghman and the Lehigh Motor Inn. He said he would like to develop that parcel of land, to “demolish everything” on that lot and build something new. At least the dirty old men are gone, and now they have to find a new place to play. 40 years? My mom prayed that it would go away, and all of a sudden, it did. We live near this, on Schantz Rd. The whole block is an eyesore, they should build a new hotel like the Best Western. Already the Integrity Auto and the Lehr's Motel were torn down on Blue Barn near Memorial.
