A Whitehall man who struck and killed trick-or-treater Jordan Steinmetz as he walked along Schantz Road in Upper Macungie on Oct. 26, 2012 has been cited for not having insurance or a registered vehicle.
The driver who struck and killed a 14-year-old boy on Oct. 26 has been cited for driving without insurance and without a properly registered vehicle, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said Thursday in a press release. Upper Macungie Police filed the citations against Christopher Lee, 29, of Whitehall, on Wednesday at the offices of District Judge Michael Faulkner. Lee was also cited for having a cowl induction hood, which increases a car's horsepower and is against codes. "There was no evidence to indicate that those summary offenses were a substantial cause of the accident that would warrant the filing of more serious criminal charges," Martin said. Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced Tuesday no charges will be filed against a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian on Oct. 26 along Schantz Road in Upper Macungie. Jordan Steinmetz, 14, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie, was hit by an SUV as he walked along a residential portion of Schantz Road and killed. He had been trick-or-treating with a friend at about 8:20 p.m. and was in costume. Upper Macungie Township Police said Friday the investigation of a fatal pedestrian accident on Oct. 26, 2012 on Schantz Road is ongoing but close to being completed. Jordan Steinmetz, 14, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie, was hit by an SUV as he walked along a residential portion of Schantz Road, and killed. He had been trick-or-treating with a friend, and he had been in costume. Sgt. Corey Reeder of Upper Macungie Towship Police, who took over the investigation from the defunct Berks-Lehigh Regional Police, declined to name the driver of the SUV. Funeral services are today for Jordan Tyler Steinmetz, who was struck by an SUV and killed on Trick or Treat Night in Upper Macungie. Steinmetz, an eighth-grade student at Springhouse Middle School, was walking west on Schantz Road when he was struck by the SUV, also traveling west on Schantz Road, according to a preliminary investigation. There is a "Watch Children" sign posted in the area, but on the eastbound side of the road. Berks-Lehigh Regional police said Thursday the investigation into the accident is continuing. Jordan Tyler Steinmetz, 14, of Upper Macungie Township, died on October 26, 2012. Born in El Paso, TX, he was the son of Johnny E. and Madalene (Lopez) Steinmetz, Jr. Jordan currently was in the 8th grade at Springhouse Middle School. SURVIVORS: Parents; Sisters, Alysia and Ashley; Brother, Joshua; Nephew, Andyn; Paternal Grandmother, Betty Steinmetz; Maternal Grandparents, Nelida and Albert Albino; Maternal Great-Grandmother, Rosa Albino. SERVICES: Friday, November 2nd, 2pm in the Main room at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th & Hamilton Streets, Allentown. A viewing will be held Thursday 6 to 9 pm in the funeral home. A 14-year-old boy who apparently had been trick-or-treating was hit and killed by an SUV Friday night on Schantz Road in Upper Macungie. Jordan Steinmetz, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie, was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office. Berks-Lehigh Regional Police said the boy was in costume, walking west on Schantz Road with another boy, when he was struck by an SUV also traveling west on Schantz Road, according to a preliminary investigation.
