The Hilton Garden Inn, located at 230 Sycamore Drive in Breinigsville, is in the midst of $2 million renovated that should be completed by the end of April, according to hotel General Manager Richard Sanchez. Sanchez said the renovation will touch the majority of the hotel, including guest rooms, corridors, meeting rooms, the lobby and the business center. "We started about three weeks ago," Sanchez said. "The hotel is 11 years old and it's time to keep up with the trend, especially with all the business travelers here." Two-alarm response eventually finds smoldering mulch as the source, fire officials say.
Firefighters from several western Lehigh County-area companies were called to a Fogelsville hotel early Friday evening following reports of smoke throughout the three-story building. The two-alarm fire, reported about 6 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn at 230 Sycamore Drive, turned out to be nothing more than the aftermath of burning mulch, according to Fogelsville Fire Chief Jacque Creamer. A fire that was attributed to a discarded cigarette was extinguished by hotel personnel about 30 minutes prior to dispatch. When the smoker opened the door to return to the hotel, smoke was sucked into the fire-proof stairwell and began to waft throughout the building, later prompting someone to pull a fire alarm, someone outside stated. The Hilton Garden in Upper Macungie was robbed Monday, police say, and an employee was hurt in the process.
The Hilton Garden Inn was robbed Oct. 17 and an employee asaulted during the incident, Berks-Lehigh Police report. The robbery occurred at about 2 a.m. when the police were dispatched. The female employee was taken to St. Luke's in Allentown, treated for injuries and released, police said. No weapons were used.
