Upper Macungie is sponsoring a free geocaching event at the township park on Route 100 in Fogelsville on June 30.
Geocachers – those high-tech treasure hunters with low standards for what counts as treasure – will be back at it in Upper Macungie on Saturday, June 30. The public is invited to take part in the free event. “Cache in the Parks 2012” will start at 10 a.m. at the Hawk Pavilion in Upper Macungie Park, 1625 North Route 100 in Fogelsville. Participants of all ages and abilities can use hand-held GPS units or Smart phones with GPS capabilities to find hidden containers of “treasures.” Usually those treasures are small toys or other trinkets. Those interested in taking part can bring along a GPS or, if they don’t own one, they can borrow one from event organizers. Upper Macungie's first geocaching events takes place Saturday, rain or shine.
Hidden treasure awaits in Upper Macungie on Saturday – rain or shine (The forecast gives a 60 percent chance of rain). Bring your umbrellas and your GPS devices for “Cache in the Parks” 2011, the township's first geocaching event, at Upper Macungie Park, off Route 100 in Fogelsville. It starts at 10 a.m., rain or shine. It's a GPS-based scavenger hunt.
Geocaching will land in Upper Macungie Township for the first time next month as the Recreation Board will hold an event spanning four parks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. The event will take place at four different township parks: Upper Macungie Park, Independent Park, Grange Park and Lone Lane Park. Geocaching is a scavenger hunt, with participants locating hidden containers called geocaches or caches by using a hand-held GPS unit or a smartphone with GPS capabilities and a geocaching application. A geocache is a container that includes a logbook for geocachers to sign. A cache may also contain a treasure such as wooden or metal coins.
