All Upper Macungie Township residents are invited to celebrate American independence at the annual Breinigsville Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular to be held on Saturday, July 7, at Earl Adams Memorial Park (Breinigsville Park). This free event kicks off at 8 p.m. with patriotic music and around 9:30 p.m. the night skies will bloom and boom with one of the greatest fireworks displays to be seen anywhere in the Lehigh Valley. The rain date is Sunday, July 8. For the 28th year, this community gathering will be hosted by Carl Schmoyer III of the Schmoyer Funeral Home in Breinigsville.

Independence Day is the deadliest day of the year for teen drivers and passengers, according to AAA’s analysis of crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Seven of the 10 most dangerous days on the road for teens are during summer, according to AAA are: AAA reports that more than 16 teens on average are killed in car crashes on each of these days. The little borough of Coplay is know for putting on one of the biggest fireworks shows in the Lehigh Valley. This year, the event will begin shortly after sundown on Tuesday, July 3. You can see the free show at Saylor Park in Coplay or just across the Lehigh River in Northampton. A small but dedicated group of volunteers begins raising money in March for the annual display - which costs more than $10,000. In fact, about $1,000 is still needed to cover the costs of the 2011 fireworks show, according to the borough's website.
