The appointments follow the resignation of longtime member Chuck Thomas.

The Upper Macungie Township Recreation Board recently added two members and lost one. The township's Board of Supervisors, at the recommendation of the recreation board, appointed Jeffrey Pascoe and Jennifer Kidd to open position. The board also accepted the resignation of longtime member Chuck Thomas. The recreation board holds its meetings on the last Thursday of the month with the next meeting scheduled for March 28 at 7 p.m. at the township building. Upper Macungie Dog Park Now Boasts Area for Large Dogs

A dog park, located at Upper Macungie Park in Fogelsville, expands to include a second fenced-off area for large canines.

The second phase of the Upper Macungie dog park opened Jan. 20, and township officials say the new area has been well received by residents. Township spokesman Valerie Brosky said a second fenced area of the dog park, located at Upper Macungie Park in Fogelsville, is reserved for large dogs. Brosky said owners of small dogs can opt to use the large dog area if they so choose. However, the original fenced-in area is reserved for small dogs only. Both fenced areas allow canines to roam without leashes. "We've gotten a lot of positive feedback," Brosky said. "[Residents] just love this dog park. We're considering holding things like a pet C.P.R. class, because people are going so crazy over this dog park." The township's Recreation Board …

Upper Macungie Dog Park Nearing Completion

The Upper Macungie dog park, located at Upper Macungie Park on Route 100, still needs grant monies for its completion.

The long-awaited completion of the Upper Macungie dog park, located in Upper Macungie Park off Route 100, is still contingent upon receipt of any available grant monies. Fencing was installed on the property, which is right in front of Upper Macungie Park. According to the Upper Macungie Township Recreation Board, park rules signs have been ordered and will be installed shortly following arrival. Rec board members say they have seen the park being used by residents and their dogs and feedback has been positive. Applying for a grant to help to complete the park is still being explored. Dog Park Needs $4,000 to Continue Construction

First phase of Upper Macungie's dog park needs $4,000 to complete the fencing and pavement.

The Upper Macungie Recreation Board voted Thursday night to recommend that the township's Board of Supervisors front the organization $4,000 to complete a portion of a long-awaited dog park. Two Girl Scouts, Kristen Hickey and Anna Colanduoni, have helped to build the park in Upper Macungie Park off Route 100 in Fogelsville, but their fundraising efforts can only stretch so far. The board needs a total of $17,000 to fully complete the park, which covers about three-quarters of an acre, with pavement and double-gated fencing to accommodate both large and small dogs. "Residents have said (opening a dog park) is one of the highest priorities in the township," said board member Rich Kiser. "We have the plans but no budget." Ground was broken …

Local Girl Scouts Break Ground On Dog Park

Canine playground slated for location at Upper Macungie Park.

The dog days of summer are about to begin and, thanks to two local Girl Scouts, it looks like local residents and their four-legged friends will have a place to spend them. On Saturday, Kristen Hickey, 13, and Anna Colanduoni, 12, of Girl Scout Troop 6932 broke ground on a new dog park at Upper Macungie Park as part of their Silver Award project. The award is the second-highest tier in Girl Scouting, and requires members to complete a community service project by identifying a need in the community and taking action. For these girls, it was easy a no-brainer. “We both really like animals, and this was important for us to do,” said Hickey. “I have a dog and she likes to run around a lot, but she never has anywhere to go.” The girls worked …
