Dent, Mackenzie Party Subdued by Presidential Returns

It was clear early on in the evening that Charlie Dent and Ryan Mackenzie would win but the celebration party was dampened by disappointing presidential returns.

The celebration party for Republicans Charlie Dent and Ryan Mackenzie at the Holiday Inn in Fogelsville was packed with supporters who were happy for their candidates but hesitant to celebrate as returns rolled in for the presidential election  Speaking before the election was called for Democrat Barack Obama, Dent said, "No matter what happens tonight, we are going to have to get spending under control. "If we get this right we can have bright days ahead and I think we can get it right," Dent said. "If we get it wrong then we have a future of debt, doubt and despair - take a good look at Europe, that will be us."

I voted for the President and Charlie twice so let's all behave like educated adults and get the job done. I view the congress like children and the president as the parent. When our children show respect, do their best, and contribute around the home , the family grows stronger. I am wishful in believing that we all learned that fighting family gets us no where and we will unite.   more ›

Dent Easily Wins Fifth Term in Congress

Early returns have Dent leading challenger Rick Daugherty by 30,000 votes.

U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent has won his fifth term in Congress in Pennsylvania’s 15th District, easily defeating Democratic challenger Rick Daugherty. WFMZ is reporting that Dent had a better than 30,000-vote lead over Daugherty with 59 percent of the precincts reporting in the district, which covers all of Lehigh County and portions of Northampton and Berks counties. Both candidates campaigned around their vision of the best way to create jobs. Daugherty, the executive director of the Lehigh County Senior Center, said that the American jobs market is tied to its trade policy and that the United States needs to end relationships with rule-breaking countries or enforce tariffs to restore manufacturing jobs. Dent criticized Daugherty’s “…

Mr Dent, I hope you will work with Democrats this time around. Voting that "party line" is why you and congress have the lowest rating in history. Take a lesson from this past election... work with Democrats!   more ›

Charlie Dent No Longer Listed as "Vulnerable"

Four-term Republican U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent looks likely to keep his 15th District seat come Nov. 6.

Incumbent Republican Congressman Charlie Dent is no longer listed as vulnerable by PoliticsPa in his re-election race against Democrat Rick Daugherty. The statewide politics website this week shifted Dent's rating from what had been "minimally vulnerable." Dent, who is running for his fifth term, saw the 15th legislative district he serves change under a new political map. For the last 10 years, the district consisted of all of Northampton County, most of Lehigh County and small parts of Berks and Montgomery Counties. Under a new map, the district extends across five counties from Northampton County to Dauphin County. In a controversial move, the map splits up the Lehigh Valley, putting Easton and part of the Bethlehem Area School …

Dent, Daugherty Differ on Jobs, Health Care

In live television debate, incumbent Congressman Charlie Dent and challenger Rick Daugherty trade blows on Obamacare and job creation.

Jobs and health care were the dominant topics of discussion in a live televised debate between Congressman Charlie Dent and challenger Rick Daugherty on Tuesday night. Following a similar script to a Tea Party forum 11 days ago, Republican Dent tore apart the Affordable Healthcare Act and blamed the country’s unemployment woes on President Obama, while Daugherty defended and praised Obamacare and blamed joblessness on free trade agreements that he said shipped jobs to China and Mexico. The two 15th Congressional District contenders also differed on deficit-reduction measures and military spending. Though very little time was devoted to women’s issues, the candidates’ differences on abortion got a brief spotlight. Dent remains one of the …

Rick Daugherty knows what the common man knows! The balance in where the little guy stands and the balance of that power to establish businesses in the economy takes incomes to the employees and working man. Shipping jobs overseas is a problem as well as allowing mergers that create monopolies that allow big business to charge end users what they will. Monopolies can be as big a problem as …   more ›

Charlie Dent: 'Canada is Open For Business'

A meeting between U.S. Rep. Charles Dent, the Canadian General Consul and local business leaders opened the door for a "speed meeting," where area businesses can be matched up with Canadian counterparts.

The idea for a "speed meeting," not to be confused with "speed dating," came about during an interactive round-table discussion this week at Computer Aid on Ridgeview Drive in South Whitehall. Canadian General Consul John Prato was U.S. Rep. Charles Dent's guest at the event when the idea for a match-making meeting between about 75 small-to-mid-size businesses and six large Canadian oil sands companies was discussed. Prato was in Pennsylvania touring businesses that have ties to Canada with Dent, R-15th. They were scheduled to visit Mancor in Allentown later in the day. Prato said he initiated a similar "speed meeting" in New Jersey and has plans for two more - one in New York and another in Connecticut. "We want to roll it out here as …

Dent, Daugherty Square Off at Tea Party Forum

Candidates for 15th Congressional District seat differ on Obamacare and job creation.

U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent and challenger Rick Daugherty differed most noticeably on Obamacare and how best to increase employment in a forum Friday night for the 15th Congressional District race, hosted by the Lehigh Valley Project 9/12 Tea Party Group. Republican Dent said he will vote to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act, a line which drew immediate applause from a fairly full room at the Charles Chrin Community Center in Palmer Township. “The health care law is going to add costs … and it will also kill jobs,” said Dent, saying a Congressional Budget Office estimates that 800,000 jobs will be lost because of Obamacare. “It incentivizes employers to cut payroll.” Democrat Daugherty said he favors the bill because he doesn’t believe …

After seeing the debate, the question for me is whether it's a prudent decision to swap a tenured well seasoned work horse for a non experienced newbie in these very troubled economic times. The answer is no. Not right now. Check back in four years Rick, perhaps Charlie will vacate his seat and move up the ladder in Washington. That is if the 15 th district will let the superstar go, then you can…   more ›

Should Dent Dis Newspaper That Called Him a Fink?

Congressman Charlie Dent is refusing to participate in an Express-Times debate because of the newspaper's editorial that called him a "fink" for supporting a controversial redistricting map

What do you think of U.S. Rep. Charlie Dent's decision to skip an Express-Times candidate debate because the newspaper ran a front-page editorial calling for the ouster of "fink" politicians who supported gerrymandered redistricting in Pennsylvania? Tell us in the comments section below. Dent's campaign manager said the newspaper forum would be biased against the candidate for the 15th congressional district. Republican Dent and Democratic challenger Rick Daugherty will debate at least twice before the Nov. 6 general election:
