Police Can Buy Their Guns, Supervisors Say

Upper Macungie Police officers will be given the opportunity to purchase their service weapons for $415.

Members of the Upper Macungie Police force will be given first chance to purchase their service weapons for $415, according to the Upper Macungie Board of Supervisors. The board, earlier in Thursday night's agenda meeting, passed a motion giving  department heads permission to sell excess township equipment. The 23 service weapons are Glocks, which are 40-caliber guns that were puchased from the now-defunct Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department. Supervisors said the police department members will get the first chance to purchase the weapons. If they decline, the weapons will be sold at auction. Upper Macungie's New Police Officers to be Sworn in Today

Two swearing-in ceremonies will be held today for Upper Macungie's new police officers.

  Upper Macungie's new police officers will be sworn into service today by District Judge Michael Faulkner, three days before the new department takes over from the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department. The ceremonies will be held at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., at the township municipal building. A promotion ceremony also will be held after the 4 p.m. swearing-in event. The public is invited. Many of the new officers in the 28-member force served with Berks-Lehigh Regional police, which will continue to provide police coverage to the township until Monday evening. Township supervisors set salaries last week. The department, which will be located at 37 Grim Road, will be under the supervision of the township's new Police Chief, Edgardo A. Colón

DA: Man Intended to Rape Real Estate Agents

State Police at Fogelsville and Berks-Lehigh Regional Police investigated a report by a saleswoman for Pulte Homes in Upper Macungie. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

  A 29-year-old Bucks County man has been charged with intending to subdue and sexually assault real estate agents by luring them into model homes, according to a release Friday from the Lehigh County District Attorney's office. Frank A. Yeager, of 111 Hickory Lane, West Rockhill Township, was charged Friday after an investigation by State Police at Fogelsville and Berks-Lehigh Regional Police. Police said he took steps toward committing the crimes. Yeager is charged with one count of criminal attempt rape, two counts of carrying firearms without a license, and one count of possessing instruments of crime, a misdemeanor of the first degree, according to the prepared release. Maxatawny to Drop Lawsuit Against Upper Macungie Over Police Force Assets

Citing progress in divvying up assets of the Berk-Lehigh Regional Police Force, Maxatawny supervisors decide to drop lawsuit against Upper Macungie and other member muncipalities.

  Maxatawny Township supervisors voted 3-0 to drop their lawsuit against Upper Macungie and other member municipalities of the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Force, Maxatawny manager Justin Yaich said Friday. The decision to drop the lawsuit came 10 days after the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Force Commission agreed to have the remaining assets of the regional police department appraised, then auctioned. The regional police force disbands at the end of the year, and Upper Macungie's new force begins operation Jan. 1.
