Your Weekend: Parkland Football and Grim's Greenhouse Fall Festival

Go to Grim's Greenhouse this weekend to kick off the fall season. The Parkland Community Library is packed with events Saturday. There's a free jazz concert at St. Paul's UCC Church Sunday. Parkland H.S. teams compete on the athletic fields Saturday.

This weekend is expected to feature fall-like conditions, according to the National Weather Service forecast, with sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70s. So get out there and enjoy!

Here's what's going on in and around Upper Macungie Township this weekend:

  • The Parkland High School football team, coming off an opening week victory against Delaware Valley, opens its Lehigh Valley Conference schedule with an important matchup at Easton Area High School. Kickoff is 7 p.m. The game can be seen live on Service Electric Cable Television's TV2.
  • Grim's Greenhouse, located at 9941 Schantz Road in Breinigsville, kicks off its Fall Festival Saturday. Attractions include a new corn maze, apple picking, pumpkin picking, hay ride tours, a play corral, a hay slide, a tube slide, and later in the season, flashlight Maze Nights. Most attractions runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Maze admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children 3 through 12. There are also many homegrown farm market items and sweet treats to choose from.   • The Valley Preferred Cycling Center, at 1151 Mosser Road, has several practice sessions available Saturday, including one under the lights. Click here for more information.
  • The Parkland Community Library will be busy Saturday. The library, located at 4422 Walbert Ave. in South Whitehall is hosting a Basic Computer Class at 9 a.m., a Practice SAT test for high school students from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a Daytime Book Club meeting at 2 p.m. Call the library at 610-398-1361 for information on any of these events.
  • The Catherine Boulay Foundation will hold a Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's Trexlertown Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 am. Adults are $7 and kids are $4. Great food and raffle items will be available. The Catherine Boulay Foundation is a registered charity which supports cancer patients, families and caregivers on the journey though cancer. A portion of the funds raised will be donated to the Praeger Fund of the Lehigh valley Hospital and the Wellness Community of the Lehigh Valley.
  • Dorney Park in South Whitehall is hosting Guest Appreciation Day on Sunday. All thrill rides available for $20. (The park is closed Saturday for a private event.)
  • The Trexler Environmental Center, 4935 Orchard Road, Schnecksville will host Birds & Bagels on Saturday from  8 a.m.to 10 a.m. Join our naturalists for an early morning bird hike, educational conversation and a light breakfast. Binoculars and guide books will be provided. You’re also welcome to bring your own. This program is free. 
  • St. Paul's UCC Church, at 1249 Trexlertown Road in Trexlertown, is holding a Sunday School rally at 9 a.m., followed by a jazz concert at Sunday 3 p.m. Call 610-395-4571 for more information.
  • St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. John's UCC, both located in Fogelsville, will hold a joint service Sunday at Breinigsville Park at 10:30 a.m, followed by a picnic. Call either church at 610-395-5535 or 610-398-7015 for more information.
  • On Saturday, the Parkland High School girls soccer team hosts Northampton at 10 a.m. and the girls tennis team hosts Southern Lehigh, also at 10 a.m.
  • Want to play some miniature golf? Liber-Tee Miniature golf, at 7720 Adrienne Drive in Breinigsville, will be open all weekend. Play 18 holes and enjoy a hand-dipped ice cream cone afterwards. Call 610-391-1477 for specific hours.
  • Kids eat free Sunday at the Buckeye Tavern, located at 3741 Brookside Road in Macungie.
  • Everybody loves free. The nearby Allentown Art Museum is free to all on Sunday. Hours are noon to 4 p.m.
  • St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, at 1879 Applewood Drive in Orefield, holds Saturday Masses at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday Masses at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
  • Zeigels Union Church, located at 9990 Zeigels Church Road in Breinigsville, will hold Sunday School at 10 a.m. Worship services are at 8:30 a.m. and 11:05 a.m.
