Air Show, Astronomy Top Weekend Events

Hit the Allentown Art Museum for free on Sunday, take in the Grossology exhibit at DaVinci Center while you still can or go swimming at the Terry Hill Water Park.

The final August weekend before Labor Day is forecast as a spectacular one with sunny skies and temperatures in the low 80s. Get out and enjoy!

Here's what's going on this weekend in and around Upper Macungie Township:

  • The Lehigh Valley Air Show runs Saturday and Sunday at Lehigh Valley International Airport, beginning at 9 a.m. each day. Activities will include flight performances, skydiving, static performances, exhibitors and a classic car show. Tickets can be purchased each day at the gate.
  • Join a local astronomer Saturday at the Trexler Environmental Center in Schnecksville to learn about how to identify celestial objects, what equipment to use and other useful information on how to get started in the hobby of astronomy. The Wildlands Conservancy is sponsoring this free, family friendly program from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Trexler Nature Preserve, 4935 Orchard Road, Schnecksville.   • Check out the Grossology exhibit at the Da Vinci Science Center in Allentown, which is in its final two weeks. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • There's a multitude of entertainment options at Sands Bethlehem's Molton Lounge. On Saturday, it's Brian and The Hit Girls, also at 9:30 p.m. On Sunday, The Fabulous Greaseband takes the stage at 8 p.m.
  • Kids eat free Sunday at the Buckeye Tavern, located at 3741 Brookside Road in Macungie.
  • The nearby Lehigh Valley Zoo in Schnecksville is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Everybody loves free. The nearby Allentown Art Museum is free to all on Sunday. Hours are noon to 4 p.m.
  • The Terry Hill Water Park, located at 10000 Hamilton Boulevard, is open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The park offers fun for the whole family featuring rainbow slides, a Wild River, a Lazee River, a Tarzan rope and a diving board. The park also features a miniature golf course. Amenities include free use of picnic tables and lounge chairs as well as hot showers and parking. A refreshment stand sells ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, snow cones, sodas and iced tea.
  • St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, at 1879 Applewood Drive in Orefield, holds Sunday Masses at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
  • St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, at 1028 Church Street in Fogelsville, holds Sunday Worship at 9:30 a.m.
  • St. John's UCC Church, at 1027 Church Street in Fogelsville, also holds Sunday Worship. Call 610-398-7015 for times.
  • St. Paul's UCC Church, located at the corner of Trexlertown Road and Church Lane in Trexlertown, holds a Traditional Worship at 9 a.m. and a Contemporary Worship at 10:30 a.m.
