Crowds Race to See NASCAR's Tony Stewart

Fans lined the exterior of Office Depot in South Whitehall in the summer heat for a few seconds with the famous NASCAR driver Tony Stewart.

No one seemed to mind the summer heat Thursday outside the in South Whitehall. NASCAR driver Tony Stewart was in town!

Hundreds of people gathered in hopes of shaking the NASCAR driver's hand and getting his autograph.

The program started later than scheduled due to a flight delay, but everyone was smiles as Stewart and the team from the Office Depot Foundation gave 4,000 backpacks to local service organizations and school districts, including and KidsPeace.

Some happy tears also were shed.

Boca Raton, FL, resident Mary Wong, president of the Office Depot Foundation, was on-site to welcome Stewart, a "good friend." Through the "National Backpack Program," 400,000 backpacks have been donated nationally this year by the Office Depot Foundation.

Afterward, Stewart was scheduled to sign autographs to get a spot for an autograph.

Jenae, Thank you for taking the picture of Tony with the sand sculpture picture of his car! My daughter was thrilled to see that and so was I since I was not able to get it in the right spot to take one. She is a huge fan and that made her day. I also greatly appreciated the one of her while Tony was signing her picture. I was behind her and was not able to see her face. This was my first autograph signing experience. I was thrilled to see that you posted the pictures that I was unable to get of my daughter meeting one of her goals in life. Thanks so much!!! Michelle Hartley Doelp

really amazed that the event took place in the Parkland School District and they were not one of the organizations to get a donation. Also who paid for the 3 South Whitehall Police officers that were security?

So glad you liked the photos, Michelle! Tony actually held up your sand sculpture picture so I could take a picture of it. He is such a nice guy! I'm sure Sarah will never forget that moment. Very exciting indeed!
