Upper Macungie Player Enters 2nd Round at Australian Open

Varvara Lepchenko makes it to second round of Australian Open tennis tournament.

Upper Macungie's Varvara Lepchenko has made it into the second round of the Australian Open tennis tournament.

Lepchenko, the 50th ranked female player in the world, triumphed in the singles and mixed-doubles categories at the tournament in Melbourne, according to the Morning Call. She was due to take on Romania's Simona Halep Wednesday evening.

Lepchenko, a native of Uzbekistan, competed in the 2012 Olympics, but lost in the second round.
