Parkland Boys, Girls Hoops Teams In State Tourney

The boys won the District 11 title Saturday, while the girls team qualified for states by finishing second in the district playoffs. The state tournament begins this weekend.

The Parkland High School boys and girls basketball teams have both qualified for the PIAA state tournament, which begins later this week.

The date and site for the boys, who won the District 11 tournament Saturday night with a 65-60 victory over Freedom High School, has yet to be determined by the PIAA.

However, Lehigh Valley Live reports that the Parkland boys will face Ridley High School Saturday at a time and place to be determined.

The victory was sweet revenge for the Trojan boys (21-7), who lost to Freedom in the Lehigh Valley Conference tournament earlier this month. The boys are coached by Andy Stephens.

The girls team, coached by Wes Spence, will travel to Scranton High School Friday to play Wallenpaupack Area High School at 7:30 p.m. in the 4A classification, according to the PIAA website.

They qualified for the state tournament as the runner-up in District 11, defeating Bangor in the third-place consolation game Friday night, according to Lehigh Valley Live.

It's the first time the girls team has qualified for the state tournament since 2007.
