The best and brightest showed up for a grueling day-long tryout to be a part of the Lehigh Valley Indoor Arena Football team

From the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks:

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks signed four players from their recent open tryouts held on Nov. 17 at Iron Lakes Sports Club in North Whitehall.

Former Liberty HS and Rutgers University FB/LB Andres Morales was among the 80 young men who attended the workout, and his talents were recognized enough to earn an invite to training camp.

Other camp signings included DB Bradley Davis from Lincoln University, and Brandon Renford, a speedy Wide Receiver and indoor veteran. QB Matt Jeffers has also signed with the Steelhawks after leading the Laredo Rattlesnakes of the Lonestar Football League to the playoffs this year.

Bethlehem native Andres Morales (6’2” 205lb) returns to the Lehigh Valley after playing for Rutgers from 2006-2010. As a LB for Liberty High School, Morales was selected to the Pennsylvania Big 33 team and was first team Class AAAA Associated Press.

The Steelhawks expanded their backfield by signing Lincoln University Defensiveback Bradley Davis (6’0” 200lbs). Davis recorded 19 tackles in 2012.  The Steelahwks are depending on his cover skills in the pass happy Professional Indoor Football League.

Matt Jeffers (6’3” 205 lbs) joins Tim Bailey and Adam Bednarik in the Quarterback battle during training camp. Jeffers, who graduated fem Farleigh Dickinson University, was the starting QB for the Lone Star Football League’s Laredo Rattlesnakes in 2012. Jeffers led the Rattlesnakes to the playoffs in 2012 and ended the season with 2,186 yards, 38 TDs, and 14 interceptions.

Joining Jeffers on offense is WR Renford (5’9” 176lbs) who previously played for the IFL’s Seattle Timberwolves in 2010 and 2011. Renford carried for 167 yards in 3 games for the Timberwolves.

Select participants from the tryout will be invited to a second tryout Jan. 19 at Iron Lakes Sports Club.  Athletes who were unable to attend this first open tryout are encouraged to register online via www.lvsteelhawks.com for the final open tryout before the 2013 season.
