12 Parkland Students Sign Letters of Intent

The 12 Parkland High School senior student-athletes sign letters of intent Wednesday after receiving partial scholarships to play collegiate sports.

Twelve Parkland High School student-athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday, accepting partial scholarships to play collegiate sports. They are:

Timothy Baranek, a member of the football team, will continue his education at Lock Haven University, where he received a partial athletic scholarship. Tim served as Parkland's quarterback and helped win a District 11 championship. He is the first player in Parkland history to run/pass for more than 1,000 yards in the same season. He also played basketball, baseball and ran track and plans to become a state police officer.

Austin Beidleman, a member of the basketball team, will continue his education at Kutztown University, where he received a partial athletic scholarship. He was a two-time All-League and All-Area player and earned a District 11 title. He plans to study elementary education with a minor in special education.

Jarel Elder, a member of the football team, will continue his education at West Chester University, where he recieved a partial athletic scholarship. Elder was Parkland's running back, where he won a District 11 and league championship. He ran for more than 1,000 yards. He was selected as a Lehigh Valley Conference All-Star running back, defensive back and special teams player. He also participates on the track team and plans to study biology.

Andrew Fuehrer, a member of the football team, will continue his education at Stetson University, where he received a partial athletic scholarship. Andrew was a member of the District 11 and Lehigh Valley Conference championship teams and was a three-year varsity letter winner. He played basketball and track and plans to study finance.

Hannah Gombos, a member of the soccer and basketball teams, will continue her education at East Stroudsburg University, where she received a partial athletic scholarship to play soccer. She is a member of the Key Club and also played basketball, track and volleyball during her high school career. She plans on becoming a middle school teacher.

Nick Hutchinson, a member of the soccer team, will continue his education at Old Dominion University, where he received a partial athletic scholarship. Nick was a two-time LVC All-Star, first-team All-Region and was selected to play in the 2012 NCAA High School All-American game. He plans to become a physical therapist.

Callie Krajcir, a member of the volleyball team, will continue her education at West Chester University, where she received a partial athletic scholarship. She won a state gold medal in 2011 and state silver in 2012. She also played basketball and soccer. She plans to study occupational therapy.

Harris Nagle, a member of the swim team, will continue his education at Marist College, where he received a partial scholarship. He was a 12-time District 11 medalist and a two-time District 11 champion. He became the school record-holder for the 100-yard breast stroke. He plans to study Information Technology and Systems.

Megan Polaha, a member of the swim team, will continue her education at Fordham University, where she received a partial athletic scholarship. She earned a state silver medal and owns the individual record in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. She is also a member of the record holding 200-yard medley and freestyle relays. She won the Dennis McGinley Award for outstanding swimmer at the 2013 District 11 meet. She plan to study business.

Chris Strauss, a member of the swim team, will continue his education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he received a partial athletic scholarship. He was a four-time District 11 champion and a three-time state qualifier. He is also a member of the ski club and architecture clubs. He plans to stude exercise science.

Mike Unger, a member of the football team, will continue his education at West Chester University, where he received a partial athletic scholarship. Mike was an offensive tackle and earned All-Conference, All-Area, All-State and Offensive Lineman of the Year honors. He plans to study sports medicine/human anatomy and physiology.

Abbi Walsh, a member of the swim team, will continue her education at Xavier University, where she received a partial athletic scholarship. Abbi medaled at the state competition and swam her best personal times at the District 11 meet after overcoming a shoulder injury. She plans to study occupational therapy.
