None Seriously Hurt in Parkland Bus Crash

Six, including four elementary students, are taken to hospital after car and school bus crashed on Cedar Crest Thursday morning.

10:50 a.m. Update: The four Lehigh Valley Christian Academy students on the Parkland School bus with the driver during Thursday morning's crash have been examined by medical practitioners and released to their parents, according to a release from officials. The students have not sustained any injuries, the release said.

The bus driver is undergoing precautionary testing but appears to not be seriously injured. 

The bus was hit by an oncoming car that crossed the center line and hit the rear of the bus, the release said.  In an attempt to avoid the collision, the Parkland bus driver veered the school bus to the right, and the oncoming car hit the rear wheel of the bus. The collision caused the bus to roll onto its side.

Parkland Superintendent Richard Sniscak said, “We are so thankful that no one has been hurt and commend our bus driver for acting swiftly and safely.”  

9:40 a.m. Update: Four elementary students were on the bus headed to Lehigh Valley Christian Academy at 1151 S. Cedar Crest Boulevard when it crashed.

The students and driver were taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to Mark Lapos, director of school services for Parkland School District, and Jeff Emig, the district's assistant transportation director.

The driver of the car was also taken to the hospital, according to police.

No major injuries were reported.

Original report: A bus landed on its side after a crash on South Cedar Crest Boulevard near Cedar Crest College on Thursday morning.

About four students were on the small bus (bus number 70) and none was seriously injured, according to Lt. John Christman of .

The students were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest as a precaution.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. when a white car collided with the bus.

Patch is seeking further details from Parkland School District officials. Police at the scene did not know where the bus was headed.
