Police Warn of Door-to-Door Solicitor in Upper Macungie

Upper Macungie residents complained to police about a man going door to door asking questions about local schools

Police are warning Upper Macungie residents to be wary of a salesman going door to door asking questions about the Parkland School District.

On July 30 and 31, received complaints from two separate residents (one on Boxwood Court, the other on Elderberry Drive) about a man going through the neighborhood purporting to be an intern with the Parkland School District.

The man, who was carrying paperwork that appeared to be a spreadsheet, attempted to ask questions ranging from satisfaction with the school district to athletics. After receiving these complaints, police checked with the Parkland School District and confirmed that they had no intern working for them and that no one should be going door-to-door on their behalf.

Further investigation revealed that similar incidents have occurred within the past month in both the Northwestern Lehigh and Nazareth School Districts. After speaking with representatives from both districts, it was determined that in at least one of the incidents (in Northwestern Lehigh), the person going door-to-door was actually a salesperson with the Southwestern Company, a book sales company.
