Parkland Students May Be Off for Presidential Election
Parkland school officials plan to avoid having students in buildings that will double as polling places on Nov. 6, 2012.
officials recognize that voter turnout no doubt will be greater in a presidential election year, including at polling places located in schools.
For that reason, assistant Superintendent Rodney Troutman told the Personnel and Finance Committee on Monday that it would make sense to avoid having school on Nov. 6, 2012, when voters will elect the next U.S. president, in an effort to better protect students.
Consequently, Troutman suggested, and committee members agreed, to instead give students the day off and move a teachers’ professional development day from March to Nov. 6.
