Alvin H. Butz to Manage Parkland Renovation Projects

The Parkland School Board contracted with Alvin H. Butz Inc. of Allentown for three years to manage renovation work at district schools.

The Parkland School Board approved hiring Alvin H. Butz, Inc. as its construction manager during Thursday night's agenda meeting.

Butz will serve as the construction manager for multiple renovation projects scheduled throughout the district during the next 30 months. The company will be paid about $850,000.

The hiring of a construction managers comes on the heels of the school board borrowing $24 million over the next three years to address a three-year capital improvement plan created after a feasibility study designed by USA Architects.

The improvement plan will allow the district to maintain schools and mitigate future financial challenges if maintence gets ignored.

The district says an immediate project will be the renovation of which was last renovated in 1991. The list of planned improvments includes roof repairs, new windows, acoustical tiles, driveway repairs, kitchen upgrades, electrical system, HVAC system, cabling, building code upgrades and asbestos abatement.

The district said borrowed funds will pay for the installation of a new phone system and surveillance camers systems that will be installed this summer. In addition, roofing, paving, plumbing and general repairs will take place at various buildings throughout the district.

Also planned are energy audits for three secondary schools with the hope that repairs and system adjustments will save on utilities for many years.

The district said projects will be undertaken in order of priority.

The district noted that the design phase in under way with pre-construction beginning immediately and running through June. The district expects all construction completed by June 2015.
