Parkland Appoints New Special Education Supervisor

Andrew L. Weber was appointed a supervisor of special education in the Parkland School District.

The Parkland School Board appointed Andrew L. Weber as supervisor of special education at its Tuesday meeting.

Weber previously served as the Easton Area School District's special education supervisor and as a middle school learning support teacher in the Kutztown and Allentown school districts.

Weber will earn $95,000. He replaces Jennifer Wood, who resigned two years ago as supervisor of special education, administration, to take a position in higher education, according to Robert Thornburg, director of student services.

The position had been eliminated, but the administration was able to move a position that opened in the technology department to the special education department after a resignation last month, said Nicole McGalla, director of community relations and development.

Weber will join a staff comprised of Louise Fick, supervisor of special education for K-12, and two coordinators.

Weber earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and elementary education in 2000 from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a master's degree in special education in 2005 from National University. He earned a supervisor of special education certificate in 2008 from the University of Pittsburgh.

"Andrew has a great deal of special education experience that will assist him in being successful in this position," Superintendent Richard Sniscak said in a news release.

"Foremost, he possesses a dedication to serving young people and is extremely child-centered in his approach. We are excited to welcome him to the Parkland administrative team."
