Parkland Appoints a New LCCC Trustee

Parkland School Board has appointed its vice president, Roberta M. Marcus, to the Lehigh Carbon Community College's Board of Trustees.

The Parkland School Board has appointed its vice president, Roberta M. Marcus, to the Lehigh Carbon Community College's Board of Trustees.

She replaces Parkland School Board member  Marcus will serve out the remainder of Cohen’s term, which expires in 2014.

Marcus, an avid supporter of education, has served as a director with the Parkland School Board since 1995; as its president in 1998, 2001 and 2003. She currently serves as vice president of the board. Marcus serves as the chair of the Personnel and Finance committee, board liaison for the Community Advisory Committee and served on the Strategic Planning committee.

Marcus has been a co-chair and founding member of the Keystone State Education Coalition since 2006. She also serves on the board of directors with the Education Policy and Leadership Center. Since 1999, Marcus has served as the Pennsylvania 15thCongressional Federal Relations Network representative to the National School Boards Association.

Marcus also was an executive officer with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association from 2007 to 2011, working in various roles including president in 2010.

Marcus received “Master School Board Member” accreditation in 2008 from Pennsylvania School Boards Association, one of only 19 in the commonwealth. She also was honored with the National School Boards Association Distinguished Service Award; Congressional Recognition for “Spirit of Volunteerism” from the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Timothy A. Allwein Advocacy award from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

Marcus earned her bachelor’s degree in political science from Queen’s College of the City University in New York. She lives with her husband in South Whitehall.
