Parkland School Board Approves Hires, Retirement, Resignations

The Parkland School Board approves several personnel changes at its Nov. 20 meeting.


The Parkland School Board approved several personnel changes, including hires, a retirement, a sabbatical and resignations, at its Nov. 20 meeting.

 

Hires 

  • Christie L. Schlaner, of Coopersburg, was hired as a substitute science teacher at Orefield Middle School, effective Dec. 7, at the annual salary of $55,980, prorated. Schlaner is temporarily replacing Amy Kakeley, who is on a childrearing leave of absence.
  • Joelle L. Strahler, of Allentown, as a part-time clerical receptionist at Springhouse Middle School, at an hourly rate of $15.34, effective Nov. 21. She replaces Christine McNeill, who resigned.
  • Megan L. Halbert, of Allentown, as part-time clerical for Visual & Performing Arts at Parkland High School, at an hourly rate of $15.34. She replaces Stephanie Misera, who moved to another assignment.
  • Michelle M. Kaetzel, of Schnecksville, as a Title I aide at Kernsville Elementary School, effective Nov. 14, at an hourly rate of $16.50. She replaces Lindsay Yeakel, who resigned.
  • Thomas Bryant, as a mentor for Christie Schlaner at Orefield Middle School.
  • Denise M. Davis, of Breinigsville, as a crossing guard at at a daily rate of $16.45. She replaces Jennifer Doyle, who resigned.
  • Kaitlin Kline, Catasauqua, as assistant varsity cheerleading coach at Parkland High School, effective Nov. 16, 2012. She replaces Abby Benner, who resigned.
  • Beth Breiner, of Bethlehem, was hired as Coordinator of Educational Technology for Parkland School District, at an annual salary of $77,000, prorated. She replaces Jason Henry, who moved to another assignment.

Retirement

  • Joan D. Clipper, RTII teacher at Kratzer and Cetronia elementary schools, is retiring after 18 years. Her retirement is effective at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

Resignations

  • Julian J. Taibi, boys head tennis coach at Parkland High School, effective Nov. 6.
  • Abby Benner, assistant varsity cheerleading coach at Parkland High School, has resigned, effective Nov. 16.
  • Stephanie L. Gagnier, third-grade teacher at Fred J. Jaindl Elementary School, effective Jan. 28.
  • Lindsay M. Yeakel, Title 1 aide at Kernsville Elementary School, effective Nov. 7. 
  • Jennifer Doyle, crossing guard at Fred J. Jaindl Elementary School, effective Nov. 9.

Change of status

  • Lindsay M. Yeakel, from Title 1 aide to instructional aide at Kernsville Elementary School. She will earn at an annual salary of $26,326, prorated, effective Nov. 14, 2012. She replaces Jaime Rhodes, who moved to another assignment.
  • Seth C. Allen, from part-time custodian at Springhouse Middle School to full-time building custodian at Parkland High School, effective Nov. 26. He will earn an annual salary of $41,195, prorated. He replaces Rick Kistler, who moved to another assignment.
  • Jennifer Stuetz, family and consumer science short-term substitute to substitute for a temporary vacancy at Springhouse Middle School, effective Nov. 21. She is filling in for Malissa McGowan, who extended her childrearing leave of absence through March 15.

Sabbatical

  • Charlene Grier, English teacher at Parkland High School, will be taking a sabbatical, from Jan. 28 through the end of the 2012-2013 school year.

Recall of Furloughed Personnel

  • Mary Reis, of Allentown, as a part-time custodian at Springhouse Middle School, at an hourly rate of $16.37, effective Nov. 26.
  • Sandy Daniels, of Orefield, as a part-time custodian at Troxell Building, at an hourly rate of $16.37, effective Nov. 25.
