Parkland Appoints a New Principal

Karen D. Dopera leaves the Allentown School District to join the Parkland School District at Schnecksville Elementary School.

The Parkland School Board appointed Karen D. Dopera to be the new principal of Schnecksville Elementary School at its Tuesday night meeting.

She replaces William Bowen, who is leaving to be closer to his family. He has accepted a position as principal at Gwynedd Square Elementary School in Montgomery County.

Dopera is the principal of Jefferson Elementary School in the Allentown School District. Previously in ASD, she was principal of Lehigh Parkway School, assistant principal of Ritter Elementary School and an elementary school teacher for five years.

Parkland's Assistant Superintendent Rod Troutman said Dopera was selected out 35 applicants for the job. He cited her "child-centered philosophy" and "understanding of the skills necessary for elementary school." He said she had a strong curricular background and noted her strong emphasis on involving the staff and community in educational decisions.

Dopera holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Kutztown University. She has a supervisor of curriculum and instruction and principal's certificate from Lehigh University.

Superintendent Richard Sniscak said in a news release: "Karen's background, skills and overall personality will complement the Schnecksville community very well. She is extremely knowledgeable and possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills.

"She demonstrated a wealth of knowledge in using research-based educational strategies to meet every child's needs. We wish her the best of luck in her new position and warmly welcome her to our administrative team."
