Michaela Conlin Among 8 Parkland Alums to be Honored

The Parkland School District Education Foundation will hold its first Gala on May 14, when actress Michaela Conlin and seven other accomplished alum will be inducted into a Wall of Honor.

Actress Michaela Conlin is among eight accomplished  alum who will be inducted into the district's new Wall of Honor this month, when  holds it first Gala.

The event, on May 14 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Fogelsville, is sold out, school officials said.

Conlin is a 1996 graduate. She plays Angela Montenegro on the Fox TV series "Bones."

In addition to Conlin, those will be inducted into the Wall of Honor include:

* William D. George II, a 1952 graduate. He is president and chief executive officer of Ironton Telephone Company. 

* Donna Steckel, a 1971 graduate. She is assistant principal at Parkland High School. 

* David M. Jaindl, a 1974 graduate. He is president and owner of Jaindl Farms.

* Tom Salvaggio, a 1985 graduate. He is managing director of Computer Aid Inc.

* Opera Singer Patricia Risley, a 1985 graduate. 

* Dr. Wayne J. Saunders, a 1988 graduate. He is an oral surgeon.

* Former NFL tightend Tim Massaquoi, a 2000 graduate.

Parkland spokesperson Nicole McGalla said 350 people are expected to attend the gala. She said Conlin will not be there for the induction ceremony but her parents will be there on her behalf. (Conlin was also inducted into earlier this year; her parents attended the event on her behalf.) 

Former NFL player Kevin Reilly is guest speaker. Mike Zambelli from Service Electric Cable TV2 news is emcee. There also will be a silent auction.  

School Board member Robert Bold said at a recent board meeting that the district's Education Foundation has so far raised $71,000. 

The district's Education Foundation was established in 2011 as a way to create new revenue streams for the district. The foundation is designed to foster creativity and innovation, not only in terms of new monies for the district but also in funding enrichment opportunities for students and staff in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Grants will be made in June, Bold has said.

In setting up the non-profit foundation, the Parkland School District joined a growing list of schools in the Lehigh Valley that have done so, including Saucon Valley, Southern Lehigh and Allentown school districts.

amazing that Austin Scott who has his number 33 retired by parkland is not on the list.

Parkland has many many many distinguished alumni. This is the FIRST Wall of Honor. They will be able to fill Many Walls in years to come. BTW Lauren Weisberger, authoer of The Devil Wears Prada, graduated from Parkland in 1995.
