LCTI Launches New Program in Building Trades
Lehigh Career & Technical Institute is organizing a new program primarily for at-risk students.
The Lehigh Career & Technical Institute is organizing a new, late-afternoon program with classes in the building trades.
The program will be developed primarily for at-risk students, including those with truancy problems. LCTI draws students from nine school districts in Lehigh County, including the Parkland School District.
The new program will be run from 3-6 p.m. on school days.

Parkland officials discussed the new program during a meeting Monday of the school board’s Personnel and Finance Committee.
“I’m excited about this,” Superintendent Richard Sniscak said.

School board member David Kennedy, who is on the Joint Operating Committee for LCTI, said, “This has been talked about for a long, long time.”
Assistant Superintendent Rod Troutman said it is hoped that the classes will be appealing to students who otherwise have a difficult time functioning in school.
Sniscak said it is possible that the building trades classes will be up and running by November.
