Kernsville Elementary has Outdoor Classroom

As students head back to school, an outdoor classroom commemorated in June awaits.

Kernsville Elementary School students have a green space to call their own.

Thanks in part to a $5,000 grant from the Lowe's Toolbox for Education program, the school was able to create an outdoor classroom, complete with native plants, shrubs, flowers and trees. Seating is on boulders and picnic tables.

"This hands-on environment will teach students about items that are better for our environment and how to sustain them for the future," according to information in a district newsletter.

The school's Parent Teacher Organization had submitted the application for the grant. The classroom was commemorated in June.

Parkland Nurseries, Girl Scout Troop 6700, Concordia Lutheran Church in Macungie, anonymous donors, the Wildlands Conservancy, Kernsville's PTO, Kernsville's Environmental Club and parents helped create the educational space, the district said.
