Parkland High School students Melanie Perez and Emily O'Brien were selected by the College Board as 2013-14 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar recipients.

The program was created in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. This year, the program is recognizing about 5,300 Hispanic/Latino students who were selected from a pool of more than 259,000 who took the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA.

Students recognized by the program are at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino (based on the program's definition) and have achieved a minimum PSAT/NMSQT score for their region.
