Zoners Allow Contractor to Share House with Chiropractor

A variance granted by the Wednesday night will allow a Breinigsville property owner to rent part of his property to a chiropractor.

Steven Dormann, owner of at 9620 Hamilton Boulevard, petitoned the board for a variance to allow Robin Musselman of Coopersburg to operate her chiropratic practice at the location.

The location is zoned residential. The board's variance was a special exception for non-conforming business uses in the residential neighborhood.

Dormann said he plans to move his contractor's office to the basement and rent the other portion of the house to Musselman.

"When I bought the property, it was a real eyesore. I put a lot of money into it and now it's an asset to the neighborhood," Dormann said.

He explained that, due to sagging business, he could not afford to keep the property and chose to rent the remainder.

"I'd hate to give it up," he said.

Musselman told the board that her practice consists of herself and one other employee. She told the board that she treats two patients per hour.

Dormann plans to increase parking on the property to 18 spaces from its current 12 to allow for increase motor vehicle traffic at the site.

"That should be more than sufficient for their use," Zoning Officer Al Geosits told the board.
