Upper Macungie Takes Over Roads in 4 Subdivisions

Upper Macungie takes responsibility for plowing several roads in Highgate, Lehigh Hills, Laurel Fields and Trexler Fields.

Upper Macungie Township has taken over the responsibility for 15 roads in four developments but it still expects the developers to finish making improvements, officials said.

Dean Haas, township engineer, said Upper Macungie was accepting the road rights of way for streets in the subdivisions of Highgate, Lehigh Hills, Laurel Field and Trexler Fields in order to be eligible for state liquid fuels money.

“The roadways once they’re passable PennDOT will accept them for liquid fuels so the township can start getting revenue which they’ll need to maintain those roads,” Haas said. But the developers will still be required to finish them, he said.

The subdivisions are Highgate, Lehigh Hills, Laurel Field and Trexler Fields.

In the Trexler Fields subdivision the roads are: Bramble Drive, Crescent Lane, Holly Blue Way, Orange Tip Way, Monarch Lane, Schaefer Run Road, Schaefer Run Road South, Swallow Tail Lane East, Swallow Tail Lane West, Trexler Road and Viceroy Lane.

In Lehigh Hills, the road is: Glenlivet Drive West.

In Laurel Fields subdivision, the roads are: Bellflower Circle and Milkweed Drive.

In Highgate subdivision, the road is: King Way.

A man in the audience at the June 7 supervisors meeting asked how the township would plow King Way since there is no top coat of paving on it and the manhole covers stick up three or four inches out of the roads.

Supervisor Edward Earley responded: “Carefully.”

Haas reiterated that the developers still must finish some of the roads.
