Upper Macungie Getting Rid of Township Credit Cards

Did you resolve to use your credit card less in 2014?

So did Upper Macungie Township.

Supervisors voted last week to get rid of all but one of the four credit cards used by township employees. The cards had $10,000 limits, Supervisor Kathy Rader.

She had surveyed other communities and found that Upper Macungie was in the minority when it came to using credit cards. Other municipalities, she said, give employees access to store cards.

Township Treasurer Barry Moyer will hold on to the remaining card for emergencies. 

The board also voted to change its purchasing policy so that all purchases have at least two signatures from department heads. These moves come as the township looks to cut spending as it prepares to hire a new manager.
