Unemployment Rose in Lehigh Valley in June

Lehigh Valley's unemployment rate increased slightly in June to 8.5 percent.

The Lehigh Valley unemployment rate ticked up to 8.5 percent in June compared with 8.1 percent in May, according to labor statistics.

The rate applies to Lehigh and Northampton counties, as well as Carbon County in Pennsylvania and Warren County in New Jersey.

The region added 3,000 non-farm jobs but that gain was diluted by a rise in workers seeking jobs.

Government employment declined from May to June because losses at the end of the school year overshadowed seasonal gains in county and municipal government jobs, according to a Lehigh Valley Live report.
