Township Allows Bigger Mobile Home on Lot

Upper Macungie Township Zoning Board approves variances to allow an owner to put a larger mobile home on a Breinigsville Road lot.

Judith Body, the owner of a home on Breinigsville Road will be allowed to put a larger mobile home on the property after being granted variances for setbacks in the front, side and rear yards.

Upper Macungie Township Zoning Board Wednesday granted the variances after hearing from Stephen Souders of Discovery Homes Inc. in Kutztown. Souders came before the board on behalf of the owner of the property at 8657 Breinigsville Road.

The existing manufactured home is 12 foot by 56 foot with an 11 foot by 8-foot addition on land zoned neighborhood commercial.  The new doublewide mobile home would be 27.4 foot by 60 foot, Souders said.

Souders said the home has been there since 1973. The property abuts the Route 222 Bypass.

A neighbor of the property, Patricia Wagner, said while she gets along fine with the owner, she’d prefer to see a rancher on the land. She said she tried to buy the land but the owner wasn’t interested in selling.

Wagner said she was concerned about how a mobile home on the property might affect her property value.

“It will be absolutely beautiful,” said Souders. “I think it is great economical housing for someone who doesn’t want a large area to maintain.”

The zoning board voted 3-1 to allow the variances.
