Supervisors To Consider Plans Following Public Hearing

Jaindl Land Co. rezoning request and proposed SALDO changes can be acted upon at July 7 meeting.

Upper Macungie supervisors have the green light to consider both the township's updated Subdivision Land and Development Ordinance () and a request from Jaindl Land Co. following a public hearing Thursday evening.

Both matters will go before supervisors for their possible action at the board's scheduled July 7 meeting.

Jaindl Land Co.'s zoning request revolves around the Lehigh Hills development, off Route 100 near Upper Macungie Park.

Jaindl Land Co. would like 14 acres of property along Route 100, where a Weis Market is currently , re-zoned from residential to neighborhood commercial.

"This is an attempt to foster mixed-use projects while significantly preserving woodlands," said Jaindl attorney Joseph Zator II. "The common uses together makes sense, especially with the location along a busy artery. At maximum, (the commercial) buildout is two buildings at 6,000 square-feet each."

Other re-zoning requests affect the main arteries surrounding the proposed neighborhood commercial zones, which were the main concern of the handful of residents that attended the meeting.

Plans calls for reclassifying Nursery Street, which extends from Route 100 to Church Street from a collector street to a local street.  Earlier this year, planners amended the original request and voted to keep Nursery Street a collector street north of Glenlivet.

Planners originally gave the nod to Jaindl Land Co.'s request to reclassify Mohr Street from a collector street to  local street.

The township's SALDO has not been updated since 2001. The main SALDO update revolves around how much money developers must pay in recreation fees when building new homes and developments.
